  • Young montecristo's

    Hi guys,

I know this is a bit vague but how are young montecristo's? I'm going on holiday soon and I will be passing through a decent airport humidor but as I don't know how old the cigars will be, if they only have young cigars will this be bad? Will I have to wait years before I can smoke them?

I'm looking at getting a box of no. 4s and edmundos. If I can get grand edmundos I will.

Also are there any recommendations for cigars for me to try? I want something special

    Cheers
    Ollie

You'll be OK Ollie, all Cuban cigars can be smoked straight from a new box .... the age thing is preference, and desired ages vary vitola to vitola .... as a rule of thumb, try for three years of age .... anything 09/10 will be fine for Monte 4 and Edmundo (The Petit Edmundo is better by the way).

    Recommendation: Partagas 898.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

Cheers for that. Why are PE better? I thought they were just shorter.

I'll try and get some single 898s then. Any more?

It's a mad one batler I agree... What you say should make sense but the petit edmundo is a great smoke, the edmundo leaves a little to be desired in my opinion. I can't give you any cold hard facts its just the way I find them and it turns out I'm not the only one to have this experience. I can't explain why it might be. Disappointing thing is that I often finish a PE and think "I wish that had been a longer smoke....." There's just no justice.

Pretty much as others have previously mentioned

There was some discussion on here a while back about Petit Edmundo's and Edmundo's, it was found they are actually different blends and not the same blend in different sizes.

I would recommend a Trinidad Robusto T, soon to be a deleted size, or if they have any Cohiba Corona Especiales with a few years on, they are exceptional.

I have experienced much variation in the quality of Edmundos over the last 10 years, during which time I've had four boxes. I think, like RyJs, there are periods where quality drops which, of course, doesn't help judgement at any particular time. I've stopped buying RjJs for that very reason. Fortunately, my last box of Edmundos (which I've shared with a couple of Forum members) has been pretty good for quality.

Ok thanks guys. I guess getting pe instead of edmundos will save me some cash haha. Now I do like no. 4s but I'm worried about consistency. Is there another montecristo with similar flavour but better consistency?

I can confirm the blend ratio is different on the PE's and the Edmundos.

FWIW my money goes on the PE's every time. One of my go to smokes. Haven't had a bad one since 2008.

That settles it then. A box of PE maybe no. 4s if there's nothing better and maybe something cohiba.

I don't want anything that I'll have to wait years before I can smoke them ideally

IMO the PE is the best Monte. Not so popular that they're mass-produced like the 4 and the 2 that they suffer from inconsistencies

Everytime there's a thread that mentions the Monte Petit Edmundo I just have to chime in. Great consistent smoke.

PE's you just can't go wrong with them very reliable cigar....Monte No4's seriously inconsistent, but great when you get a good one...still though, the Monte No2 is one the best cigars out there imo....
Good luck with whatever you choose

I've had a box of PE recently from 2011 and tried to let a few age but after I had one I've gone through almost all of them. I do like the Edmundo also and that's why I got the PE in the first place. Don't think u can go wrong with them tbh whatever the age
