Quite a lot like this. Nearly everything with cardboard outers has the date code on the cardboard (BHK's, Cohiba Maduro line, some of the Jars, 5*3 packaging, boxes that are non-square (898 types)). When I get these I always discard the cardboard (not much use for long term storage) but cut out the date code bit and tape it to the wooden box for future reference.
On my Noella jar i contact the retailer because the date code is on the case box, not the outer box, reproduced it on the printer and stuck it on the jar ....I know, a little crazy
