Also I just noticed that the Cohiba Siglo VI Gran Reserva 2009 is selling for ?100 each cigar at a well known UK outlet, as compared to ?30 for the standard Cohiba Siglo VI.

One cannot compare different sticks from different years as they are apples and oranges.
1997 Esplindidos are desirable sticks and I would speculate could be sold from ?20-?50 per stick. This price would vary hugely dependent on several factors including; condition, provenance, seller credibility, intact box or partial, original box etc. I could imagine an intact box with excellent providence going in auction for ?700-800 without too much problem (possibly more).
Of course one of the nicest things in this hobby is gifting sticks to someone who will appreciate themOriginally posted by Simon BolivarLittle medical correction there Steve, you will surely die...but not from smoking these

Do a search of Habanos SA and you will find all the info about the Reserva and Grand Reserva program.
In a nutshell it is about selected, pre-aged tobacco bundles being rolled several years later and released as a 'Reserva' or 'Grand Reserva' series. There is a mixed opinion on some of these sticks and Habanos had no idea how it was going to turn out as the first time they did it was 2003. I think most would agree that ageing tobacco in bundles (pre-rolled) is no substisute for the ageing that takes place once rolled (but this is another huge discusssion).Originally posted by Simon BolivarLittle medical correction there Steve, you will surely die...but not from smoking these

Don't see how ?20 is possible when a new Esplendido is selling for over ?30.
Originally posted by monkey66 View PostAs I said many factors would effect the price, I was not just referring to retail sellers. But you are right that there are not many sub ?20 1997 sticks period. There would be a big difference in perceived value between a top retailer selling '97 Esplendidos and someone unknown on Ebay for instance.Originally posted by Simon BolivarLittle medical correction there Steve, you will surely die...but not from smoking these

It's very simple: If the seller can prove that the cigars are authentic and have been properly stored in a humidor, then they will fetch top prices. So if you bought a 1997 Esplendidos from a major retailer, you could expect to pay about ?50. But if there is doubt about the authenticity of the cigars or how they were stored, then they will fetch a much lower price: A fake Esplendidos or a genuine one that has been kept in a cupboard for 10 years will not fetch anywhere near ?50.
