  • Hope this isn't true ....

I don't like copying and pasteing other BOTLs posts, but I read this on another Forum today, and I hope it isn't so .... but with Habanos you can never be sure they won't do something silly.

Was at my local cigar lounge (which is run by the Habanos Asia Pacific Distributor) tonight and the manager told me the following were going to be discontinued :-

    Partagas : 8-9-8, D5, E2 & Presidentes
    SCDLH : All
    Diplomaticos : No.2
Ramon Allones : Small Club Coronas

All the SCdlH and the Partagas 898 to be deleted. I had heard a rumour about the 898 a year back, but thought no .... they couldn't .... could they?
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

It would be pointless for such high demand products to be discontinued. It makes no sense, they're in the business to make money.

Jeez. They've only just introduced the D5 and the E2....even if they've not being selling in huge numbers, I can't imagine they'll be cancelled already.
The 898 is a classic and revered by all who smoke them....poor show if that's true!!

Yeah I hope it isn't true also but it really won't surprise me if it is.It's what, about a year now since they ditched the Boli Corona Extra?.Who'd have thought they would have done that?.I really am becoming increasingly of the opinion that HSA,and presumably therefore the Cuban government, are moving ever closer to a world where what they want is to have us all paying top dollar mark up for mediocrity, the annual highly lacquered, overrated shit in the shiny box LE's and RE's.But as long as people are prepared to chase them then why wouldn't they?......I think it's coming at a terrible price though,JMHO

Aye, hope this is a nasty rumour but as Arf' say's dafter things have come true. I think the 898 is up there with the greats but I have never actually brought a box of them. I have brought boxes of RASCC though & will be buying more if this indeed is offically announced. IMHO this would be the craziest move as with al the smoking restrictions over the world, a small good quality & tasty cigar is just what is required & if sales are poor then have they ever heard of the power of advertising? They could attract far more new players with such a stick than the flash end of the market, which most smokers are only going to have as occasional treats.

Say it ain't true! The Dip. 2 is one of the top pyramides IMO and I'm fairly sure that it's a quite popular stick. The RASCC is one of my favourite short smokes and I completely agree with Simon that it seems ideally positioned to be a top seller. As for the 898, it's an absolute classic and one of my top 10 cigars.

I could happily live without the D5 and E2, but I still think that HSA's commercial strategy is all wrong. If they stopped producing so many overpriced LE's and RE's and focused on better quality control and marketing for their existing regular production, then they wouldn't have to go through all this discontinuation malarkey and customers would be happier.

Hear hear!! I suppose it all depends though on just who exactly HSA's target demographic is these days! I don't think it's the likes of me,I'm pretty sure of that!

The Asia Pacific distributor? Where was this lounge? If it was situated in AUS then I think what is being referred to is that those lines will no longer be imported into Aus because of compliance issues with the new plain packaging laws. Also, if that is truly what is being referred to I can tell you the list is a lot longer than that.
What would I know? I'm just a backwoods roo packin crim from New Holland! LOL. (Thankyou El Cat)
