  • UPDATED! Habanos S.A. discontinues production of the entire Trinidad cigar line

    From Facebook German LCDH:

Habanos S.A. discontinues production of the entire Trinidad cigar line.

According to Habanos S.A. officials the Trinidad line will be relaunched with new "vitolas" in a distant future. Interesting, as that would then be the second re-launch. More in todays LCDH Hamburg newsletter
    Pretty big move.

Holy smoke that is a pretty crazy move to delete a whole brand.

I think someone at Habanos may have had a little too much rum.

Do they just have a computer which randomly generates Habanos SA's deletions list? Surely no human being could make some of the decisions they've made over the last three years or so...

Coming next year... Cubans can't be arsed to make Partagas cigars anymore...

Crazy yes but I bet there are large stocks of Trinidads & when these run low, the brand will re-appear. Cheap marketing ploy. Either that or they really are short of the quailty tobacco required.

This - there is years of stock around the world. We have not seen the last of Trinidad, lets just hope they don't ruin it when relaunched.

Hmmm - I guess sales haven't been hitting their targets. Shame - the coloniales is a great smoke for me.

I just received the following from LCdH Knokke:

                      Dear afficionado?s,

We already knew for a while that Trinidad would stop producing the Robusto T and Robusto Extra.
This important "deletion" fed the rumors in the world of Habanos!

                      What is going on?

The Robusto T and Extra are Top-Cigars and best sellers within the Trinidad brand, so everybody was wondering what was really going on.

A while ago we heard through the grapevine that this could be the beginning of the end!

Very recently this rumor has been confirmed. Habanos SA has indeed decided to stop the Trinidad brand and relaunch it in a couple of years.

How this relaunch will look like is very unclear and is again ground for speculation.

What we heard is that Habanos SA fully wants to focus on Cohiba as its premium brand and that Trinidad would come back as a lower positioned vitola. This would mean Habanos keeps only one premium brand: Cohiba.

When, what blend and with which vitola?s the brand will be relaunched is a big question mark!

                      Trinidad today has 5 vitola?s available :

                      - Coloniales

                      - Fundadores

                      - Reyes

                      - Robusto Extra

                      - Robusto T

Next to those there are also two Limitada?s available:

                      - Ingenios (EL07)

                      - Short Robusto T (EL10)

I won't miss em. Not that anyone cares.you can give things a chance more than they deserve and Trinidad has certainly been given more than their fair share. Only my opinion

                              Quite like a Reyes.

I know the town/city of Trinidad on the island isn't connected with the production of the line. It is the place in Cuba I stayed in where more nudge-nudge-psst-across-the-road-LOOK! men would appear in passageways, open boxes of cigars, show them and then disappear quickly down passageways.

That's what I think of when I think of Trinidad.
