I recently bought a Monte Open Regata single stick, left it to rest in the humidor for 3 weeks and have just smoked it. Wasn't that impressed. It had a really great construction, a really nice looking stick. It had a firm draw, too firm, for the first third and then it opened up. It was just a bit one-dimensional with not a lot of flavour. I have since read a few reviews about them and wouldn't have got one if I had of read these before I bought! Has anyone had any different experience with this stick? Maybe I just got a bad one......

My understanding regarding the Monte Open series in general is that it's a range whose target audience,as it were, are people who buy cigars only and very specifically as products of celebration and special days/events,that sort of thing.Presumably, from an HSA point of view, the hope is that a percentage of those people will "get the bug" and go deeper into exploring cigars and become regular purchasers. Therefore to that end I guess you might say that the blend in these cigars has been dumbed down, for want of a better phrase. And whilst that's fine for reeling in the new and/or occasional cigar smoker the more experienced are finding them all too bland and, like yourself,one-dimensional.They always seem to get top marks for their aesthetics and construction though, nice to look at but not much going on inside. Some people are like that!"The most futile and disastrous day seems well spent when it is reviewed through the blue, fragrant smoke of a Havana cigar."

I found the one i smokes the eagle i think it was quite complex with notes of paper/cardboard,wet dog and cheap carpet with maybe a hint of that "hospital" smell on the side.
While i would agree that they are for the newer cigar smoker there pricing says otherwise as they are pretty damn expensive for what they are.

I have 4 Monte Open Regata's in my humidor, I bought them without reading any reviews. I have decided to give them some age and see what they are like. I doubt they will be anything special in the long run, but there's a time and place for a mild smoke. I must say appearance and construction are great.

At the launch a few years ago they were getting binned half way through.
Haven't smoked one in years but that NicW is a big fan, says they are an undiscovered gem.Originally posted by Simon BolivarLittle medical correction there Steve, you will surely die...but not from smoking these

Won't bother to look at reviews on this one, enough info here.
