  • El Laguito, the Cohiba factory

I just spent a very enjoyable time reading a very well written article I stumbled upon, and thought I would share this....
    It starts....

Havana, Feb. 25 -- Today I'm visiting El Laguito, the Cohiba
factory where only Castro's own cigars and his gifts for diplomats and
heads of state were once made. The factory is in a lovely pale-yellow
mansion, formerly owned by a sugar magnate, has marble floors, stained
glass windows, high ceilings and perfectly cared for grounds. In the
interior office of the director, Miguel Brown Vaillaint, a muscular,
relaxed, black man of obvious confidence and physical strength, smiles
and insists that we have a coffee together before making the tour. Cuban
coffee in Cuba in the Cohiba factory sounds like a great idea to me.
I'll leave you to enjoy the rest....

PS. Interesting note. This is the factory where the Trinidad cigars are also made.

Good informative article mate. It should be pointed out however that Trinidad cigars are also rolled at other factories within Cuba, and not just El Laguito.

          I didn't know that
But I don't know as much as you folks. But I'm a quick learner.
(That's why I joined the forum, after all).

Monkey66: Indeed. Not technical, but what I liked about the article is that it did evoke the emotions relating to his experience.

Yep, I saw Fundaores being rolled at the La Corona Factory, Pinar del Rio.

Miguel Brown is no longer there. Arnaldo Ovalles runs the show now. Cohiba and Trinidad are not exclusively rolled at El Laguito anymore, not for years. It is a nice factory though, a very different feel to it than any of the other Havana factories. I suppose because it's much smaller and out if the city a bit.
