  • Partagas or H Upmann? Help!

    Good evening all,

I've been stocking up my humidor recently, I've got lots of new sticks in there (ageing a lot of them, mainly Bolivars) but although I have a variety of brands, I don't actually have any Partagas or Upmann cigars.

I'm hoping you guys will be able to share your personal preferences with me, I'm really drawn to buying the Partagas SDN4, SPN2 or the H Upmann Mag 46.

I'm going to pop into town tomorrow to pick a stick up, which should it be and why?

    All the best,

    Frederick.

I actually have all three in my humidor right now. I haven't tried the SDN4 or the Mag 46 yet, but have each of those sitting tight. I have three SPN2's, which are gorgeous.

I haven't been too impressed with H. Upmanns that i've tried so far, but adore the P2's. My vote is for the Partagas Serie P No. 2.

What are your usual tastes - which ones from your stock are really rocking your world...

Might help point us in the right direction...

My faves from Party are the 898's, prefer them over both the SPN2 and PSD4. Or get some shorts, no humi is complete without some for a quick fix of Partyness.

Upmann are my fave brand at the moment, loads of flavour without being really overpowering. Grab some Connie 1's or Mag 48's (get them before they are all gone). I've got some Mag 46 but they need a bit more time (Feb-10 box) before I'll really know how good they can be. I've had singles of the Upmann No.2 and enjoyed them. Another great cigar to try is the Sir Winston.

If you are off shopping, the bottom line is you MUST try a Party Short. After that I'd try a Connie 1...

I'm really up for any flavours, I do prefer creamier tastes but I'm open to anything. I'm planning on picking up Party Shorts in Gibraltar, for the mean time I'll leave them but thanks for the suggestion, Will.

The three I've mentioned are the three I'm really after, I'm very tempted by the SPN2.

Looking for Monte Sublimes if you have any?

Thanks! I've been told the Connie is very creamy, how does the Mag 46 compare? I've read a few reviews on the internet stating that the Mag 46 can be creamy and chocolatey?

I would say the Connie is smoother, but if it's cream you are looking for have you looked a HDM ? For me the petite robusto is just like drinking the stuff!

No Upmann is really "chocolatey"… IMHO the Mag 50 (and of course the Sir Winston) is more creamy than the Mag 46 or the Connoisseur, and if you want a Upmann that is 100% ready to go, I recommend the Magnum 48.

The Mag 48's are certainly smoking really well right now.

The Upmann range have been very good over the past couple of years IMO, I would opt for the 46.

I agree with you gents, the Upmanns have also been top notch for me....A box of 10 Magnum 50s I bought back in the 2008 is simply divine (Simon Bolivar can support my view as we smoked two together almost a month ago) creamy, sweet and smooth with plenty of aroma without the slightest harshness. Last saturday I tried a magnum 48, very good cigar as well.

As I have previously said in a post, I have never been dissapointed by an upmann so far...

The first and only H. Upmann i've smoked was a Coronas Junior which was, quite frankly, nasty. I haven't smoked another Upmann since, but i have a couple ageing in my humidor (including a Magnum 48) which i hope will break the prejudice i've built on that one experience.

Thanks for the inputs everybody, I finally decided to go with the Upmann 46 right now but that isn't to say I won't ever try the Mag 50, Party DN4 or PN2.

I decided to take a gamble on the Mag 46 and a couple of Siglo I's too (I needed some smaller sticks)!

This is probably going to sound cheesy, I'm going to a 'university herf' tomorrow after lectures with a few lads from my course and I think Monte and VR are the general vibes from discussions my friends and I have had! I'll try to get a review up on Wednesday too.

Thanks for all of the advice,

                            Frederick

Good choice mate. The 46 has been my cigar of the year. I've gone through 30 of them in about 6 months...love them
