I sat down to review one of these tonight. Generally I try to avoid the classical use of subjective adjectives but I realised that a review if pretty useless without them
So here goes...
Boxcode: URG SEP 10. Quite young but not too young as the review will show.
Construction: Perfect. Wrapper was smooth, with a slight glittery sheen and the shape was perfectly symmetrical. A beautifully crafted cigar.
Draw: Medium. Plenty of smooth smoke with medium effort.
First third: Started with a thick woodiness on lighting. Slight problems with a wayward burn that was quickly corrected. Strong cedary taste which quickly gives way to a certain sweetness which is difficult to identify at first before manifesting as caramel. Cedar intertwines with caramel throughout this third, with the sweetness increasing as the burn progresses. Caramel eventually overpowers cedar producing a consistently creamy, sweet draw.
Middle third: Caramel becomes consistently stronger without becoming overly sweet. Beautiful flavor. A strong earthiness emerges, but always in good ratio to what is now a caramel undertone. Definite fluctuations in flavor without being too complex. Sudden punctuations of sweetness throughout this third develop into a constant stream of sweet flavor. Sweetness remains but what seems like a light soapiness appears.
Home straight: Slight bitterness creeps in as the strength begins to increase, always remaining a pleasurable smoke. Wood and soap intermingle briefly. Cedar reappears before transitioning back to caramel. Active undulation in taste. Each mouthful of caramel fades to leave a pleasurable burning tingle on the tongue. Slight barnyard aftertaste at this stage. Pleasurably bitter barnyard finale with flushes of sweetness. Sweetness again becomes predominant as the nub approaches. Caramel burst before the smoke ends.
Conclusion: An excellent PC. I am a big fan (controversially?) of the RyJ No 2 but this is a competitor for me. Luckily I have about 45 more to smoke
It will be interesting to see how age affects the box. Hopefully this is a useful addition to the forum, and I will certainly try to hone my reviewing skills and add further in future.
Goodnight all
