    Hey guys,

So I took my first trip to the Boisdale at Canary Wharf last week. I had a pretty great 3 course meal whilst there, then retreated to the balcony for a cigar and some whiskey. The cigar I decided to take from their humidor was the Partagas 898. I had heard quite a few good words regarding this cigar, and have been wanting to try one for a while. Im unsure if this was varnished or unvarnished, the menu didnt state, and I forgot to ask!

In all honesty however, I was left a little disppointed! The cigar looked great, good construction, lit well, draw was perfect. The flavours I was expected were just a little sparse. It wasnt an unenjoyable cigar by any means, I was just expecting a little more! There just wasnt much complexity to it I guess.

Am I being too harsh on this one? Im just wondering whether it is worth the 2nd chance? Did I just get unlucky? Is there something Im missing?

The last one I had was a 2006 (I think). It blew my head off, real power. Sounds like a very different experience to yours.

I think when smoking 'shop cigars' it is important to pick something that smokes well young (assuming one is not buying aged sticks).

Mitch at CGARS has some in the aged section that are about 10 years old and are really very nice

That's a real shame. It is one of my personal favourites. A good 898 and a glass or two of Laphroaig. Happy days.

            Strange,

I actually had it with a glass of Laphroaig at Boisdale!

I think, I cant rememebr exactly, but Im sure this one was from 2006, according to their menu. I will have to try and get hold of a couple from Mitch and compare them. Cant go giving up on this cigar just yet. Anyone know how much the ones mitch has are?
