Rick, as a medic I have a problem with taking antibiotics anaphalactially buy if Cipro is Ciproxicillian, that's what the Cuban doctor prescribed for us. I took several useful medicines in my first aid kit but next time I would take this AB & take it if I had a problem that lasted 24hrs+. Just quicker & less hassle than trying to find a doctor.

I've heard that you can take a lower dose of ABs prophylacticaly to give your immune system the edge with foreign infections it's never experienced before. Not too sure if the lower dose prevents the problem with resistance. I may have to look into it. And with the specificity of ABs for the gut it complicates options further.

I read your travel diary with a couple of breaks-one to do my 28th trip to The Island-and have really enjoyed your experiences through "new eyes". I think we get a bit jaded when we visit a couple of times a year or (as with 3 of my local friends last week) just pop down to Havana for a three day weekend.
