  • Travelling to Cuba

Thinking of planning a trip to Cuba with the missus perhaps in a year when babybickle34 has grown up a little and can stay with the grandparents for a few days. Being the sort of person who has to plan these things well in advance, I was wondering if anyone has recommendations on getting there cheaply. I saw a two week tour that sounds good but the flights would need to be sorted separately.

    Thanks in advance

Scratch that. I talked her indoors into doing it with the little one in tow.

    We're heading on June 8th

Nice one. Shame babies don't have a duty free allowance.

We're taking the self-drive option (easier with the baby) so the itinerary is pretty open

We fly into and depart from Havana so I'm thinking some time in Havana, Vinales, Trinidad, Varadero, Cienfuegos, Ci?naga de Zapata, Santa Clara...

Advice on destinations is welcome as I'm a newbie to the country

As for what I'm bringing back... believe it or not I haven't got a target yet. Are there any cigars in particular that are best to buy in their home country, or is it just a matter of what I want?

bloody hell gavin, you don't mess about!!! you weren't kidding when you said about the 'bug biting you hard'!!! lol!!! you've only been into cuban cigars for 5 minutes, you've bought the biggest most expensive humidor possible on a domestic level........ and now you've booked a trip to cuba!!! that's the way to do it, lol!!!

i tried to convince the ex last year to go to cuba and bring our son with us!!! she wasn't having any of it!!! not because she didn't want to go, on the contrary!!! she was up for it, but didn't want to risk bringing the wee man due to him have some severe allergies (egg & dairy products)!!! she didn't want to leave him behind, but didn't want to risk bringing him, just in case something happened!!! it was a nice dream while it lasted......

anyway, best of luck with your trip!!! b'stard, lol!!! only kidding.......

Hi mate last year i had a few days in Havana and stopped at the Nacional this place has plenty of nostalgia, class and great smoking areas, your wife would approve, Havana is a must, then we moved onto Varadero all inc at the Blau hotel only about 6 years old the beaches here are excellent the sea is so warm, Only buy from the proper Casa del habanos otherwise you WILL get ripped off. Have fun.

It's not totally cigar motivated alex. We had to cancel a 5* tour of India due to the pregnancy so we're both long overdue a holiday - Cuba had been on the to-do list even before I had smoked a cigar! I like to travel far and Cuba ticks that box as well as being much safer for the little one than Asia/Africa etc. The cigars are a VERY welcome bonus however We also reckon its best to do it earlier rather than later as still breast-feeding = no problems with the local food for baby. Plus she can't complain about boredom

May be a damn good idea. Will have to find out how much they cost there!

Spotted that Alex! The Behike 54s still work out about 16 quid a pop. The big question is are they worth it?

I've seen many claims that they're overrated Can't deny I'd like a box if only to look at though

I have been in the places you have stated you intend visiting and i think you have made some excellent choices. Just be aware that the roads in some parts of the country are not the best. At least you will not have to worry about the traffic though.

I am sure you will have a fantastic experience. Of the places i visited i think Vinales was my favourite. Hopefully I will get the chance to go back in a couple of years.
