The most famous "fumoir" in Paris is the Cubana Caf? (Montparnasse area)
          47 rue Vavin, Metro Vavin

Prices are ok; no staff IN the fumoir, due to french law (you must take your drinks from the bar, exactly like in a pub).

If you want a good dinner, and a cigar just before and/or after dinner (in the same place), I suggest this place : Restaurand Goumard, specialized in sea food.
It's near the Madeleine, i.e in the center of Paris. If you go there you can shop at the Lotus or at La Civette, the 2 shops are relatively close.

If you are in Paris, then the Ritz Hemingway Bar does have an outdoor area for smoking. I am not sure if it is open in the winter months, but it is a very pleasant area to smoke. Alternatively the Bar Vendome at the Ritz also has an outdoor area.

Colin Field is the head barman at the Hemingway and he does some amazing cocktails and knows his cigars too. He's also British - from Rugby!

Have fun - I adore Paris and am very jealous.

I usually head from l'hotel de ville towards le marais and on to Bastille.

                All on foot.

I'm used to being there at this time of the year and prefer the cafe terrasses with heaters.

The area is cosmopolitan and the French women wear great cashmere sweaters and look moody.

If I had time, that's where I'd be hanging out.

                Have fun, mate.

Thanks for the input, I had settled on a walk across Paris (to Les Halles to a great bistro La Tour de Montlh?ry) with a lovely 07 gold medal but it got scuppered when business called and I had to have a meeting.

I now find myself sat in a hotel room out of Paris, with no action and nowhere I fancy smoking or eating for that matter. Oh well, this is a business trip and time is precious.

Watching 2 season old Shameless on the TV in French and sniffing my GM in it's tube...does the scummy Manc humour translate?

Brian you are spot on with the cafe's and that's where I'll be if I get an hour tomorrow before the EuroStar beckons ...then I can sit stinking all the way home
