I'll be heading to KL in March, with a brief stop in Bali during the trip.

I was probably going to bring a small selection of sticks with me to enjoy on the trip, but wondered if there's any good prices to be had at the duty free or local cigar shops?

    Any tips welcome!

    Cheers

    Not sure about KL.

Bali duty free is a joke, don’t even bother. There’s a Barber in town that you can go for a cut and a smoke. Also a spot called El Laguito supposed to be good.

I had a guys details from one of the stores but lost it now unfortunately. Trini Vigia were about £600 for 12 so about average. I didn’t end up buying though because I was in Vietnam before and had the LCDH send some to me.

Edit: My hotel had a place called Sundara that also sold singles at highly inflated prices if you in a pinch.

That's about what I had heard. I think I'll pack enough sticks to enjoy and save myself the stress!

I'm hoping there are good deals to be found in KL - I know there are a couple of places for cigars in the airport which I'd love to pick up some boxes if the price is right

Ah, so there's some inside joke afoot 🧐

I'm starting to get really confused about Malaysia and duty-free... It seems they may be moving to a Singapore style of zero allowance for tobacco brought into the country without paying duty? Some websites still list an allowance, but this Reddit thread gives me doubts: https://www.reddit.com/r/malaysia/co..._travelers_to/

            Also, here: https://www.eraman.com.my/duty-free-buying-guide

            :'(

A stogie in the Bali sunshine might be more hassle than I envisioned

You could always check with the UK embassies to be sure?

Went through KL International Airport last year. There were 3 cigars shops within the terminal, well stocked but prices were not great.

Ended up purchasing cigars when I transited through Dubai instead.

Yea, I think I've written off the trip for cigar acquisition. We're transiting throughAbu Dhabi, so maybe they'll have some bits if I'm lucky

Just a quick update. I'm still in KL at the moment, haven't checked too wildly but the prices here are not super desirable.

LCDH KL has great stock but bad prices. Wouldn't be too bad to purchase and smoke in the premises if you're staying nearby. Generally I'd say the prices are slightly lower than UK, from memory (and rough ringgit mind conversation) they had:

Por larranaga petit Corona - £18
                      HdM Epicure no. 2 - £30
                      RyJ Cupidos - £55

No LE or cool regionals. Didn't really feel like browsing too long once I figured out a few rough prices.

Regarding Malaysian duty free allowances, I spoke to a guy in Abu Dhabi airport who suggested it was indeed zero for tobacco. I had planned to basically bring a tiny selection of sticks so that any duty fees would be minimal. Just 6 cigars packed in my carry-on. I did not see the something to declare queue, I saw a man at a desk and suddenly I was out of the airport. I wouldn't suggest attempting to waltz through with a big duty free bag!

Weird how expensive the cigars are when you can buy 20 camel cigarettes for about £2

I will soon be heading to Bali for four nights, which is where I plan to enjoy my cigars. I doubt I'll be bringing any back to Malaysia before heading back to the UK
