Edit: I see that all pictures with the adresses are at the bottom of the thread, I’m unable to fix this, sorry for that
Hi all,
Here’s a bit of info on cigar stores in Tenerife.
Note that I always smoke Cubans so I’m afraid I’m not able to provide info on NC.
First of all I assume most of the people staying in Tenerife are in the south, being Los Cristianos, Playa de las Americas and Adeje.
If i provide you with the distance to a shop, I start from there, all 3 are close to eachother.
Importer for Canary Islands is Cubacigar, not the Spanish Tabacalera. This means, no regional editions in the canaries as tabacalera only distributes on the mainland.
Link to their website below
As you are able to see, the listed brands are the only brands that are imported for Canarias, so for instance LGC, ERDM and a few others are not available on the islands.
As for the shops, here we go:
Airport: big brands and the most common Vitolas are available. I admit I’ve never purchased at the airport and I have the impression that the prices are higher in the duty free than they are in the regular shops. Of course, way better than UK. I also have the impression that storage conditions aren’t perfect.
Osor in Los Cristianos.
There are 2 shops very close to eachother. Pls ensure to go to this one
This is absolutely the best shop on the island with the largest selection in a nice walk-in humidor. On top of the regular production which is the best on the island, they regularly have LE, BHK, R, GR, and other special stuff. Half of thei walk-in is taken by Cubans, a quarter by Canarian cigars and at least a quarter for NC so I assume their NC collection must be ok.
Jorge is the man you should talk to. If ever you go there and you are looking for something in particular, you can talk to him upfront and He’ll do everything within his possibilities to arrange. If you wish, I’ll arrange for you
Playa de las Americas: there are a lot of tobacco shops in Playa, however lots of them sell fakes. These are a few where you can buy with confidence.
Tabacco de Luxe in Playa de las Americas
Hamit is a nice guy, he only has a limited cabinet humidor with the most famous brands and the most know vitolas but his selection isn’t that bad. He will try to assist you as much as possible, and a big bonus is the fact that he speaks English, Jorge from Osor doesn’t.
Tobacco shop Playa de las Americas.
Parque Santiago III on Avenida de la Playa de las Americas 2.
If you look at the Hard Rock Cafe, same side of the street and when looking at it app 300 meters further to your right.
The owner is a bit stressed but quite nice. He has sent me the price list of Cubacigar so i anyone can confirm I’m allowed to I’ll add it.
IMPORTANT: the guy has 2 or 3 cabinet humidor and additional cigars in a few other shops that he owns. BUT, he has a few boxes with fakes in a humidor, mainly Cohiba (or what did you expect, lol). If he notices that you are knowledgeable, he will try to hide those. Buy with confidence in case the Cubacigar sticker is on the box and in most cases these stickers are still sealed.
His selection is really quite ik
Some cigars in Costa Adeje:
In shopping center along the coast so if you’re in Playa or Adeje perfectly possible on foot.
This shop has been closed for quite a while due to COVID, so I don’t know about his current selection. This shop is quite small but has a limited but nice selection. Their shop in Santa Cruz is much larger, info below. At the time I was there, for people intrested, there was a 25ct box of Sig6 available with a few years on them.
Additional info: if you have the time to visit their shop in Santa Cruz, buy there as the prices are slightly better.
Cava La Cubana in Costa Adeje.
This small shop is located in the mall Gran Sur. This is already a bit further from the touristic area, I’m guessing you need a car to go there, only 5 min drive from Playa or Los Cristianos.
The shop has a fairly decent selection of the regular stuff, I was able to buy some Partagas898 and Trini Esmeralda. The lady isn’t too friendly, she only speaks Spanish and I had to convince her to open the boxes for inspection prior to buying them, wasn’t easy but I succeeded. Worth a visit when you’re in the neigbourhood, don’t drive for an hour only to visit that shop.
Shops in Santa Cruz:
Santa Cruz is the capital and in the north, about a 50 min drive from the 3 cities in the south. A few shops to visit, but IMO no shops worth the drive only to purchase cigars. If you’re visiting Santa Cruz anyway, which is a nice place, then yes I would go to these shops of course.
Tabacqueria La Cava de la Cubana
This is a difficult one, I’ve been there in the past where they had a decent selection, but more recently it was really bad. I know about stock and supply issues, but I guarantee it was terrible.
Some cigars:
Nice walk-in with a selection of CC, Nicaragua and canary cigars.
The shop owner Elroy is a nice guy that speaks English. For me, this shop has the second best selection of cigars on the island.
Adress: avenida Asuncion 1 in Tenerife.
El Corte Ingles in Santa Cruz
This is a walk-in humidor owned by el Corte ingles which is a mega shopping mall. They’ve recently built a new walk-in but the selection of CC is very limited, you might find some NC in there. Don’t drive there just for cigars, but it’s an enormous mall where you can find anything at decent prices.
Puerto de la Cruz: more than 1 hr drive from the cities in the south, as far as I know there’s 1 decent shop. Again, don’t go there only to buy cigars, but if you feel like visiting a beautiful town, don’t forget the shop.
Tabacqueria Amber.
The selection is probably the third best on the island, he has 3 cabinet humidor with CC and NC. I forgot his name, but the guy is nice and speaks English. Only downside, he was trying to sell me stuff at higher prices than what I know is common in Tenerife. So don’t just assume the price is right and negotiate.
I hope the text wasn’t too long and the information in here is helpful. I’m here at least 4 or 5 times a year, if you need any help upfront or during your stay, pls let me know
Cheers,
Steve
