I'm flying off to the Falklands this evening for 10 days...anyone know of any cigar shops or smoker friendly pubs over there? I know it's a long shot, but I thought I'd ask!

When I was last there there was only one pub the Globe & Laurel & you could smoke anywhere. Actually there were several smoking buildings, with damaged roofs but sure they have cleaned things up by now.
I expect they are mostly 'No Smoking' everything inside these days, hope you are only staying to do a concert or two & not stuck there for a 6 month tour?Simon Bolivar: Liberator of Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru & Venezuela.

Ahhhh... memories.
Just the mention of "Falklands" gets me reminiscing.
While you Brave Brit Boyz were off getting blown up and sniped at in the Malvinas, I was smoking a range of dirt cheap USA and Philippine cigars on mountain tops in the wilds of the Saudi Arabian peninsula, more than slightly peeved by this curious war that had cost me the chance at an astronomy project in Argentina.
We colonials were regarded as "de facto Britishers" and no longer welcome. Things are much better now, but they still charge us more for an entry visa than they do any other country, including the UK. Go figure.Commander Bob

Well I visited the Globe...interesting place though it was...(read 'dive' ) I spent most evenings in the Victory Bar...which had...wait for it...a humidor with a choice of 4 Cubans at pretty reasopnable prices, even by pub standards. I enjoyed a luvverly D4 on more than one occasion whilst playing darts and supping real ale. It took me and 4 or 5 others only 3 nights drinking to complete clean this bar out of ALL it's real ale
I can highly recommend Victory Bar to ANYONE who ever has the opportunity to visit Stanley, or indeed the Falklands. It's a strange place, but very welcoming. I visiting Goose Green by Helo and stood on the sport the CO of 2 PARA was killed, as well as being walked through a step-by-step of the battle...over the very fround and trenches (some still there) it was fought over. Truely humbling, and I realised on that rapidly darkening, windy as hell afternoon on Friday just how fecking miserable it must have been for the boys on the ground; I have a new found respect for vets of that horrible war.
It's hard to believe that it's so far away; you could just as easily be in a little fishing village anywhere in the UK.....
......apart from the minefields, penguins, and the 'Death Star' aka RAF Mount Pleasant (never trust the name...ever, twas nothing pleasant about that place!)
It might not be top of your list for cigar travel, or any kind of travel for that matter, but it's worth visiting even for a week. And there's always a stop over at Ascension Island to grab some rays
Oh, and a quick edit: Smoking is still allowed in the 3 pubs on the so called 'Golden Triangle': Deanos, the Globe and Victory Bar. And in response to Simon, it was only a 10 day tour to do some concerts in Fox Bay, Goose Green and Stanley itself, as well as the Liberation Day Parade in Stanley. 6 months would be a little too long, even staying in Hillside! My photoblog: http://chrisclarkphoto.blogspot.com/
