I am going back to Zante this coming July, back to where I started my cigar smoking last year (Oh! happy memories). Whereas last year I was happy smoking Guantanamera Cristals, Villiger Premium No7 and Henri Winterman Half Coronas, I now appreciate a quality handmade puro. I have tried the petit corona or mareva size in most Cuban brands but mostly stuck to cheaper NC brands and smaller ring gauges such as Carlos Torano dominicos, Charatan and Chinchalero.
In preparation for this years visit to the island I have contacted Habanos SA for an authorised retailer in Zante, as I plan to stock up whilst there, my understanding being that there are no limits to the amount of tobacco you can bring back to the UK if you purchase it in the country (tax paid) rather than at the duty free at the airport.
I am hoping to purchase 5 or 6 boxes while I am there (to bring back) plus a selection of singles I will work my way through while on holiday and bring back the rest. My problem is storage of the boxes once purchased and getting them back to the UK. I aim to make my purchases at the start of the holiday so need to store them for the two weeks.
I have thought that maybe I could purchase a tupperdore whilst there and take sufficient beads and distilled water for humidification, although this is a bit bulky in a hotel room. My other thought was to wrap the boxes individually with clingfilm thus sealing them and slowing the loss of moisture. Third thought was to take some large ziplock plastic food storage bags and some small humidification bead tubes or obtain some Boveda pouches and seal each box of cigars. Last thought was to only buy boxes of tubed cigars which should last longer without humidification.
Has anyone experienced the same problem or has anyone got any thoughts on which would be the preferred option.
Also has anyone ever visited the shop I intend to visit called Teboneras Nikolaos at 5 El. Venizelou Street, Zante Town.
Cheers
Andy
