How do you decide what to take when you go on holiday? Plan your smokes?

I always enjoy having a dig through my collection and picking cigars to take on my holidays, I spend more time picking my cigars than I do my clothes

Knowing I'll finally have the time needed to smoke some cigars I've been putting off, because of their size, means I tend to take more larger cigars than my go-to sizes / cigars. I'll finally have the 1.5 or 2 hours to try that one that has sat there for months because the weather wasn't right or I didn't have the time.

The up side is that I get to smoke the cigars I've wanted to try for quite a while. The downside is that as I get towards the end of my holiday I tend to have only large cigars left, the smaller sticks have been smoked when I've had a half hour or so while my gf gets ready for dinner etc.

So, a question, does anyone 'plan' their cigar rota for holiday? Anyone regimented on x per day, x small, y larger?

I guess for most of us, choosing the cigars to take on hol's is a big deal & takes some time. I always take a selection of sizes & indeed, ones I haven't smoked for a while & some special old & rare smokes coz when else are you going to smoke them? I too find the larger ones rarely get finished as the family never usually leave me alone long enough. Still more frequent smoking, allows smaller & medium sticks to get smoked without too many problems. The other problem I have is taking 20 odd stix & then not smoking them all means I can bring back less Duty Free. On our first trip to Cuba we were sick as dogs for 5 days so no smoking 1 week out of a 2 wk break. Heartbreaking. Here's my last holiday selection, for my annual fishing hols to Bute last June, more were smoked than average due to dry weather & being one my own. IMG_7080.1.jpg

What a shame you lost so much time of your holiday.
The last day of a holiday back in March I was on the beach smoking a Monte Aniversario at 8am and SLR Marquez at noon to help clear the decks for my duty free - I wasn't going to lose any of my purchases or leave those sticks behind.

my problems is that I don't have many short smokes..which I need to start buying. My selection process is select my nicely aged cigars then my special cigars around 2 a day...but I always over take.

I can understand that Derrek, if you're expecting to smoke as you buy but I really don't care for fresh cigars & these days all the cigars on offer there are mostly less than 6month old. So I take my own vintage smokes & buy to age at home.

For me it's always one of the pleasurable pre-holiday rituals to dig out my larger/longer vitolas, ie El morros, monarchs etc etc as it the only time I can really sit down to enjoy them. I also take a wide variety of marks and violas as holidays are a time to indulge and relax. In Spain at the moment for 10 days and must have 30+ cigars with me. Before we go to the pool or anywhere my good lady goes through the check list, sun cream, money, oh have you got a cigar.

That's fine if you want to smoke fresh cigars. However the farm roles they hawk to the Cubans in front of cafes are great.

In Cuba is the only time I smoke reallllly young cigars (and tons of Alex’s customs) ... I (in a self punishing sort of way) quite enjoy and look forward to this week every year .

only reason I bring any smokes is to avoid (happened to me once) not having any cigars on my first night there ... dinner at el aljibe has become a first night ritual in the last few years and usually takes care of the arrival to first visit to comodoro gap .
