  • Lighter trouble

Today I had to give up my lighter to the senseless power of the state. The fairytale of liquid explosives and general security paranoia resulted in the two staff of the security check go through a ledger and tried to find any reason why my lighter would be dangerous.

They didn't explain why, but I had to leave the lighter I travelled with many times behind.

And for what? No good reason at all... Grrrr...

The agency we booked with have literature that says do not pack lighters in the hold as there have been incidents where they have exploded. I had 3 lighters in my ruck sack and all was well.

Sorry to hear this! Hope it wasn't expensive.

I never travel with anything other than Tor-Jet lighters. They are brilliant, far far better than their price suggests.

At 25 for ?13 I just leave them stashed everywhere.

          Proper Place

The Coros always travel with a DOT/TSA approved lighter case in stored luggage. Never a problem. I’d post a picture but I can’t find one.

I think at the pound shop it's 5 for a pound.

When I travel I take my travel lighter. It's a god send...take a disposable one and this little thing...bit big but works great

I was thinking about that. The one I had was mostly plastic and surely wouldn't have been detected...

i think this is the most important part

Airport security staff will not let anything through that they consider dangerous - even if it’s normally allowed in hand luggage.

so really they can do what they like
