I wasnt sure where to post this, so mods please move if necessary. I am travelling to Glasgow for a work meeting in a few weeks. I have discovered through the power of google there is a shop with a large whisky and cigar selection literally 5 mins from my hotel.(not sure if im allowed to mention the retailers name is why i havent, they also have an online presence)

I have decided rather than order some sticks online, as i will have a few hours to myself to kill the day before my meeting to go and experience the walk in humidor at said shop.

I have probably a budget of around ?50. So if you guys have any recomendations for picking up say a 3 or 5 pack of something or a couple of individual sticks im all ears ?

I dont normally smoke, i usually like a cigar with a whisky on say a special occasion. As i said in my welcome post my purchases so far have been seriously dried out cigars whislt in tenerife and recently some puritos from ryj and montecristo. Other than this i have no experience at all.

It’s a question that comes up frequently but due to the subjectivity of this hobby is always a tricky one to answer as what I like might not be what you like, but with that been said I’m sure a lot of the good people on here will point you in the right direction on what is considered a good “newbie” cigar.

Generally I would say pick a common and approachable size (vitola) like the Corona Gorda or Petit Corona and pick a selection from different Marcas (brands) so that you get an idea of which profile suits your tastes.

But to be able to get more specific are you looking for something special for a particular occasion or just something to try out when you have some free time? Also how long will you have to smoke? If you’re wanting something for a lunch break for example it wouldn’t be any use if I suggest a 2 hour plus smoke like a double corona.

The shop i think is called Robert Graham.

No constraints on time really, as for the cigars lets say i might smoke them as soon as im home or i might tuck them away in the tupperdore i have set up for a later date. They dont necessarily have to be for a special occasion. Hope this helps, sorry if i was too vaugue above.

If you were to go Cuban I would say try Corona Gordas and get an HDM Epicure No1, H.Upmann Magnum 46 and a Punch Punch. These should be a solid place to start plus all 3 brands are widely available and have relative large catalogues so you’d be able to experience more of whichever is your favourite.

I went in there about a month ago, a really great store! Their walk in humidor is great and there was plent to choose from!

Have a chat to the guy that works in there. Very knowledgeable and was very helpful when I was up there! I ended up buying a few sticks but a fairly cheap one was the Joya de Nigeragua.

Glasgow is a beautiful city! If you get the chance, go to Kelvingrove park. Perhaps take a stick with you!

For a budget of around ?50, I would recommend a selection of small Cubans, such as San Cristobal El Principe, Ramon Allones Short Club Coronas, Bolivar or H. Upmann Coronas Junior, Romeo y Julieta no. 3, Rafael Gonzalez Perlas and Partagas shorts. You should get 4 or 5 of these for your budget and depending on how fast you smoke, each should last around 30 to 45 minutes. Plenty of bang for your buck.
