  • Spain vs Gibraltar

    Hi all.

I have a family holiday coming up, just to the west of Marbella so intend to make a trip to Gibraltar so the little 'en can see the monkeys at least but which side of the border should I be hunting for sticks, Gibraltar as the duty free haven or Spain's fixed pricing (is there a Spanish price list anywhere?)

Gibraltar is worth the trip for potentially some aged and cheap / duty free sticks. Although there's the possibility of making a few trips back and forward across the border you may only be allowed 1 for cigar purchases and duty free rules will apply - 50 sticks per person. I'd also recommend checking the boxes before you buy. I bought a box of unopened Magicos (08) and they weren't in a good state when I eventually did open them. Also there weren't many of the UK REs in stock when I visited. I ended up spending a lot more in the Tabacs (Fuengirola, Torremolinos) buying ERDM and SLR REs and found a couple of boxes of Aniversario 80s too.

I think that if you visit Stagnetto in Gibralter you not only get great prices but also EMS cigars? Very easy to find them online to get a price list.

They're H&F stickers in Gibraltar, not EMS.

EMS is a marketing term anyway

Indeed, as there was once an American Market Selection too

This link explains what the difference between EMS and the stamps for export markets are:

What is EMS? An easily identifiable mark of quality and authenticity, introduced by Hunters & Frankau, for Havana cigars sold in the UK.

The export ones basically aren't opened for the EMS 'quality check'

The straight answer to this is Gibraltar is considerably cheaper than Spain.
