I would recommend limited himself to the LCDH, there are a lot of fake cigars over there. Certainly nothing off a street vendor who's friends know some working in a factory

Are the LCDH known to be legit or just the best chance you've got and still require much due diligence?

They are the official cigar store so the cigars in there should be legit

I went last year and to nearly every cigar shop in havana, except the big one out of town. Regardless where you go the prices are within 1 or 2 cuc. I can suggest La Casa del Habano, Hotel Conde de Villanueva as it's central, no fuss and you can handle the boxes. Plus there is a nice shaded court yard with drinks, say hi to the peacocks. . Look under the palms. There is another smaller shop on the same street. Another is at the hotel tyrp, bit further out but a nice area for a stroll and a big selection.

Partagas factory at the top of city next to china town has a good shop but is a bit unfriendly due to huge number of tourists. Factory tour has moved to the new factory.. you need buy tickets from a hotel.. it's not possible to bribe the tour guide.

Lots of touts at the shop and factory.

For a laugh I went to look at some.. boxes are real but that's it. 180 cuc for 25 cohiba behike.. yeah right it's called cooperativo btw.

A good friend and I are considering a trip to Cuba early next year. Any of you good folk been on factory tours and have advice? Saw a few bits on trip advisor but advice on here gratefully received...
