  • Madrid/Spain

Hi folks. I'm looking for a bit of help and advice please. A friend of mine is off to Madrid next month and has offered to bring me back some cigars. Any suggestions for good places to send him? Also, does the airport have a good selection? Finally, does anyone know about a guide for cigar prices in Spain? I'm sure I read somewhere before that prices there are centralised but can't find anything on the internet. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Hi @mcdee. I use this site for reference ..

I don't know anyone that has been but, I'm sure the prices should be as they are listed.
My Spanish isn't that good! I guessed my way around the website to find the prices.

    Cheers,
    Wayne

I used to live in Madrid! Almost everywhere will sell cigars if they are an indoors shop but best to look out for a 'cava de puros' - two within walking distance of each other are at Calle del Cardenal Cisneros, 17, and Calle de Magallanes, 16, both can be reached from either Quevedo or Bilbao metro stops. Just don't do what I did last time I was out there and forget that they will be shut on Saturday afternoons : ( : ( : (

            Don't do it!!

Well, their selection is amazing - especially out of T1/T2/T3 for the budget airlines (can't comment on T4 as I haven't been through it in years). The weird thing with Spain is that the airport is more expensive than the 'estancos'. The other thing to keep in mind is that the government sets the prices, so if you see smokes you like get them as you won't find them at a diff price.

You will be able to pick up the more common smokes (Monte 2/4, Partagas D4 etc at almost any tobacconist but they may make you buy 3/5 packs)

Also, how long are you going? If you can, get a half day or day trip out to Alcala de Henares (train from Atocha or bus from Avenida America) : )

Thought I'd update this thread with my findings....didn't have much time to look for cigars but there so many little tobacconist that have some aged stock or a nice selection of singles.

On a random walk I came across this gem

LA CAVA DE MIGUEL ANGEL, ESPECIALISTA EN HABANOS - ESTANCO- MADRID
Calle Miguel ?ngel, 20, 28010 Madrid, Spain

The owner was great and great host had a good chat with him and showed me round his humi and telling me what is great at the Moe...he had a good inventory. The stock was a mixture of young and aged stock....if you are visiting there soon they had quite a few 12+ years on mags 46.
