Thanks for the compliment, it is appreciated.

      The Mother Lode

      So...

Today was and is close to cigar heaven. It's a lovely morning, so to get me to the casa I had a La Gloria Gold medal no. 4:

And when I'd smoked it down a bit, I went in and all the fun began. I did have a list; partly your good selves here, partly Didi's counsel, and partly that of Jo (lawyer turned humidor keeper) who is new but really pleasant, it suffered some "mission creep". I tell you, it was absolutely the best change of plans I can remember.

It mostly happened because of this:

      And this:

I'm sure we can agree that these are compelling reasons to tinker with a list. Not least being told on the basis of my selection, I'm probably not a newbie. What a compliment, though we agreed part of the magic of being a BOTL is that it's a constant learning process. I regret that there was no written price list, they do things digitally, when their troublesome point of sale machine works.

I can however give you the list of stuff I ended up with. It is in euros, and you may add up the total if you wish, but part of my deal with myself whilst here was not sweating cost, but having a good time (and besides, MLW spends money on her hair and nails, so the look I may get in return is void in my head ;-))

      I'll give per stick/pack prices:

      Montecristo Petit No2 10-box. ?10.50
(ilo #5s, just to try something different plus box date was 2013)

      JLP P Cazadore 5-pack ?7.70
      Hoyo Epi #2 3-pack. ?31.80
      Trini Reyes 5-pack. ?49
      Party Mille Fleur's. 5-pack. ?21.50
      Party Club 20-pack. ?10.20
      RG Perla 5-pack. ?21.50
      Vegueros Entretiempos 4pack. ?26.40
      Vegueros Mana?ita 4pack. ?18.40
      Quintero Favorites 5pack. ?16.00
      H.Uppman Corona Jr. ?5.20
      H.Uppman Mag 46 Tubed. ?12.80
      Party D6. ?7.90
      ERDM Choix Supreme. ?9.40
      HdM du Depute ?6.50
      RG Panatella Extra. ?2.70
      H.Uppman Mag 46 un-tubed. ?11.30
      Bolivar Tubos #3. ?6.30
      RASS. ?9.60

A victorinox Swiss army cigar tool (never seen one before, always carry a penknife, now I've got one with a pair of cigar scissors and a spike!)

Two boxes of Trinidad long matches.

The Bolivar, the RASS, the depute, and mille fleur were Didi's suggestions.

This is a long post so some more pics in a short herf

Now picture those walls x3 and that was what faced me in a shop in the Dominican Republic, I just didn't know where to look!

So I wrote the previous sat in the outside area of the fancy hotel's fancy cafe with a good coffee and the RASS, and typing, sipping, taking a puff really slowed me up. And this is a good thing as I've enjoyed this stick no end. The setting, the good weather, the gentle quiet but subtle hints of the city in the background, a really comfy sofa.

I think we have a new winner for cigar experiences in my book.

The RASS itself gets a very high mark. Beautiful construction, though fairly loose ash (but that's okay, I like to ash and purge fairly regularly), just one touch up (my fault lingering over it really). Flavours are difficult to pin down but smooth as silk and improving as I reach the last third. There's a leathery under tone with some hay over that and a warm tobacco over that (sounds obvious, but it's distinct and really pleasant, like what I imagine Cuban sunshine to vaguely smell and feel like).

          Glorious

I suggested maybe a prize for walking away from it without going "one of each please" - maybe a cigar?!

I got a box of matches!

Oh, and Jo let me try the amazing staple gun cutter thing, it really is fool proof and very satisfying.

Your wish, my command. They're all vacuumed for travel, though I'll dig around for the pic of them on the counter. And of course when I get back I'll need to have a big Tuppedore sort, so maybe I'll do a photo-typology of the stash (which might be on the verge of a collection?)

Excellent thread Moose, most enjoyable following your exploits. Glad you got to meet Didi and he helped you out. It can be quite daunting surrounded by all that choice. A very nice selection too and every time you smoke one it'll bring back the memories of your trip. Well done !
