Perhaps the smells from the attractive but stinking canals threw you off your PLPC?

The morning after the night before.

Surprisingly Simon Bolivar, this particular canal was not stinking. Or I was upwind. I did give the PLPC a good fair play and smoked it to just below where the band would be, but no dice.

So a bit later, drowning my sorrows, well moistening them at least in a bar down the way a bit, I found myself exchanging more than a few words with one of the ex-members of Deep Purple. And I was nearly hit by a dude on a cycle carrying a tuba. That's two new things for the day...

The previous paragraph clearly reads like that PLPC had something "interesting" in it, but honestly not to my knowledge. It's just the way this little excursion is turning out.

Anyhow, this morning, on the way to the Van Gogh Museum I dug from my emergency stash a Vegueros Mana?ita. Very, very much more my style, and mellow and nutty (maybe a slightly spicy marzipan thing going on?) from the get go. And perfectly behaved, lasting neatly until my museum ticket was valid.

Now of course, from where I'm having my lunch in the museum cafe I can see LCDH. I'm clearly going to have to cruise past for another something... The horror.

So far I've not had a bad Vegueros. They're light to the edge of medium, really well made, and have a great if relatively uniform flavour (at least the Mana?ita, which is a shortish smoke anyhow).

The entretiempos are another I like, was my first big boy smoke in a sampling area at the LCDH Paphos. It has room to be a bit more complicated and can get strong towards the end, but definitely a thumbs up stick.

And whilst I'm posting here. As I could see LCDH from where I was having a coffee after the van Gogh museum (Van Go if you're American or a ford transit owner), I just couldn't walk past.

I chatted with Shane who was there today, a punch and partagas fan (complete with appropriate T shirt), and we talked vitolas.

He was a bit worried that old fashioned long skinnies will start to disappear as the US enters the fold, as they're seen as "lady smokes" even though they're classic sizes.

The conversation naturally turned to all the good stuff and I came away with a Fonseca no1 (never even seen one before); a La Gloria Cubana (if it's good enough for Fidel it's good enough for me); and an ERDM something that I regret I can't remember (please feel free to help out):

And that's just from chatting. We ummed and ahhed about getting a bundle of JLPs as daily smokes to take home, but also whether or not a few Quintero Favoritos might be good. Again opinions are valued.

I got a Monte 5 to smoke on the way back to the hotel, I'm pretty sure it had some age (that looks like the old band). It was delicious.

Oh and the staple gun/cutter machine is Spanish and ?200, nice but I want to smoke that, I'll stick to my cheap single blade.

ERDM looks like a Choix Supreme?

Why don't you grab some Monte 5s to take home? You could probably pick them up for next to nothing out there?

That's the fellow, choix supreme, sounds like a good thing.

And can I find my receipt for those four sticks? No of course not. But I do know it was less than ?30 all in.

I could easily be tempted by a 10 box of Monte 5s to sit in a tuppador for the future. I've got to go in there tomorrow morning with a herf plan!

The Quintero Favoritas is a decent every day smoke. Nice, chunky petit robusto size.

I admit, despite the talk of classic long skinny sticks, I do like a petit robusto as a comfy size. Short but not too big around... (...I can't get no cigarettes...)

A good alternative to the thinner JLP vitolas, which I also like.

Ps you need to watch for the crazy Dutch cyclists. I swear they prefer to crash in to tourists rather than swerve. Bunch of "cyco-paths" (sorry, terrible pun, but I couldn't resist it).

Honest to the cigar gods, I was nearly knocked down by a guy cycling whilst holding a tuba. It was really odd.

Choix supreme is good & the Demi Tasse is excellent. Great thread by the way.

Its a demi-tasse? I thought it might have been. I know I need sleep, but new smokes in my bag, and the mother of all TAD/PAD moments just now, I'm raring to go.

Thanks for the compliment, it is appreciated.

It's a Choix Supreme, Demi Tasse are tiny, pretty much cigarette size.
