If you have a couple of weeks or so, it's worth doing a multi centre holiday. We spent 5 DAYS in Havana, then spent a couple of days in Vinales and finally unwound for a week in varadero. I booked a custom made trip with cuba direct. Hope it's of some help.

Hi Johnny, I would highly recommend Cuba, having recently come back from a holiday in guardalavaca region (south east of island) Great holiday, great people, all ready looking into going back next year to Havana for 10days, as there will be more places to buyand more choice of cigars, than in the smaller regions of the island where choices are restricted...

As [MENTION=13445714]Streetfighter[/MENTION] said - we were in the east, a long way from Havana and we loved it!

Totally depends what your looking for but I would highly recommend the city as others have suggested!

The first time we went, we stayed in Havana and then went to the Cayo Coco. The second time we just stayed in Havana, it is a city we just 'clicked' with.

Could I have some advice about Varadero from those who have been please?
Is there only entertainment in the hotel complexes or is there shops, bars restaurants etc. outside?
Do we need to be staying near to the marina at the end of the peninsula?
What are the laws and rules with regard to smoking, can I smoke outside bars, on the beach, on the balcony?
