  • Wife just dropped an absolute bomb.

She really fancies Cuba next year and wants to know if I would be up for it.

I would appreciate advice from anyone that has been on which resorts to consider, places to visit, how much time to spend in Havana etc. etc.

        Other than the cigars..
Varadero is good if you like to get out & about. It's only around 1.5 by bus from Havana too.
If you're into your history & culture, Havana takes some beating. We've been twice & each time we have absolutely loved it.
The beach at Varadero is potentially one of the best in the world, turquoise water, which is nice & warm & sand that is like talcum powder.
If you go further down the country towards the Cayo Coco area, again the beaches are amazing but, most of the resorts are along the peninsular that makes up the Cayo's. There's not a lot around you, without needing transport or going on an excursion.
We haven't been but, we have looked around the Guardalavaca / Holgiun area & that too looks very nice. It's definitely on our radar for a future visit.
In total we've been 3 times, twice to the Cayo's & once to Varadero. The Cuban people are wonderful, the weather, usually, is great, unless you go Sept / Oct. That's during hurricane season & it can be a bit wet.
The food is ok, you won't go hungry or you won't get ill. It's not as fancy as other places due the restrictions on trade etc. Saying that, you will still enjoy the food.

Any other help I can give, I will, just ask away.

        Cheers,
        Wayne

We stayed at Breezes, Jibacoa twice. Its now called Memories. Fantastic little resort but nothing around it at all. No kids either. Its on the North coast midway between Havana and Varadero. You could hire a Yank Tank and driver to take you anywhere.

We've always done the overnight trip into Havana, taking in the Tropicana show too.
The last time we went, we also did the Pinar Del Rio tour too, tobacco plantation tour, cigar factory visit etc.

We were thinking about staying three or four nights in Havana. Does that sound about right or is it too much/too little?

Did you do the package holidays or book everything yourself?

                              I stayed in Varadero

Riu Varadero is ok for Cuba standards , in comparison the food was good

avoid Iberostar Tainos , f awful food

Havana as said 1.5 hours away

you can book a twin resort holiday Havana and Varadero

we travelled wi Thomson and Thomas Cook

                              finally

                              you jammy fooker
