    Hey Guys,

I went through the archive and what I found was not very encouraging. I was hoping to get my hand on some Diamond Crown maybe, but from what I understand the NY state tobacco tax is very high so you can't really get a bargain in NYC? Is that correct or am I mistaken? If I'm mistaken, can anybody point out a good store?

    Cheers, Niels

I've just come back from NYC. I spoke to a couple of NYC BOTLs I follow on Instagram and they recommended the Cigar Inn, it's on 2nd Ave between 53rd and 54th. It's great in there, and the staff are very attentive. If you mail or phone them beforehand I'm sure they'd be able to help or point you in the right direction. As for pricing I found the sticks quite reasonable, sticks ranged from about $8 to $25 in the main. Any more info you want, let me know

Been to New York several times and have visited most stores, try De La Concha, Nat Sherman, Barclay Rex or Davidoff etc. unfortunately JR Cigars are no more, they definitely had bargains. I think there is still bargains to be had, just depends on what NC your after.

As for Cigar in, the one I visited was great with a great selection, except the owner (one of 3 brothers) was the rudest c**t I've ever met! Swore I'd never go back when I return to NYC, but by all accounts the Cigar Inn shops have recently been sold, so hopefully that asshole is gone and replaced with someone with people skills and personality.

Yep - they're gone. It's all new staff, I was speaking to the staff about it. The manager they've brought in arrived 8 weeks ago and it's all change. Found it to be really friendly.

I think when they sold the shops they had to do away with the Cigar Aficionado lounge, or at least the name of the lounge.

Oh, I just saw Nat Sherman. They have their own cigars, don't they? I saw a youtube video once about them I think. Has anybody tried them and can give me some recommendations maybe? I am very intrigued by them, but I had own brands before that were just mediocre at best.

I tried a couple of Nat Sherman's on my first trip to New York when they were at the original location (2006 I think), anyway I can't remember which ones but do remember I really enjoyed them. Do a little research on them and choose a couple, they've been making/selling cigars for generations, so they must be doing something right.

Keep us updated on what you eventually get.

I had a Nat Sherman in a sampler but can't remember which and my notes are back in the UK but I do remember it being a bit bland so choose wisely. I'll be visiting them soon too.

Hm... browsing for a while I think I will try to order online in the US and have something shipped to my friends hotel. Anybody tried that before? Any recommendations as to where to order in the US?

Just bumping this have a long weekend with a few buddies this weekend and whilst I was hoping to pick up some new sticks I am more interested in enjoying a decent smoke there. What are the cigar bars like for price? Is it worth taking my own I don't want to get stung a shit load for a dog rocket. Thanks

Oliva Series V or V Melanio (not had the latter) are a decent smoke. Casa Magna, Davidoff Gran Cru no.3. All IME and personal taste.

You should get a few suggestions from members, but I don't smoke many NCs. Have a good time.
