• Holiday booked - Mexico

Evening all,

After a long & arduous search..We've decided on our holiday for later this year - October.
Mexico..Nuevo Vallarta, on the Pacific coast.
I haven't really thought about Mexican cigars, as I've always favoured Cubans. I have sampled NC's but, I haven't found any that I really like, so I always go back to the taste of the Cuban!
Would anyone have any recommendations for Mexican cigars to try?
I did a bit of a walk around using Google street view & identified a small cigar shop not too far from our hotel, which I will definitely be going in.

Thanks for any suggestions..

Wayne

I asked tj about this a while ago and he said they were pretty much all shit or fake or both.

There's the LCDH at Peurto Vallarta. A bit of feedback on Trip Advisor also.

I was over at TJ's in early June for a brief visit, but I posted and took a load of my own cigars and didn't visit any outlets in Meckico.

I'll see if he has any experience of the above and get back in the thread.

Thanks cj121.
I did try to push for Cuba but, flight times & dates did not suit .
I've found a small cigar shop near to the flea market in Bucerias on Google street view. I will take my own supplies though, just so I know I've got something to smoke while out there!

Wayne,
I've been to Mexico twice ..... BE CAREFUL! They will sell from what look like proper shops, cigars in plastic/glass fronted boxes. All fekes! I even bought a pack of 5 off a bloke in the market, all had tobacco beetle and were eaten through & through. the only place to buy the real thing is in a proper shop, you'll know because of the prices!

I was at a BBQ on Saturday, lit up a cigar and was asked by a lady if I was smoking a 'Cuban cigar'. She said the smell was disgusting as she went on to light her cigarette and then tell me she thought it was Cuban.......... as she'd seen them rolling them in Mexico
I just smiled at her.

I went to playa del Carmen and found that that...

te amo brand are good value at a couple of quid upwards. The perfecto ones at 2-3 quid were my choice. They and other Mexico cigars I tried do have a slight dirt taste. It was also in the coffee at our hotel. Te Amo seemed the least offensive of what I tried. I didn't bring many back though!

Many shops sell fakes. The tat shops sell glass top boxes and some cigar shops have better presented fakes that would fool many.

If you find an Lcdh or a reputable shop, there are a few in Pdc, the prices of the major brands aren't a big saving, although there a couple of " bargains" I brought very fresh box of quintero panetelas, (March 15,) for about 70 quid. Half UK price but double Spanish price. They smoked well fresh in the Mexican sun!

It may be different in your resort but this was my take on playa del Carmen. Hope you have a great time!

Thanks everyone for the input. I've bought a Xikar travel humidor/ case to take my own supply!
I'll have a try of whatever is out there but, I'd rather have my own stash

Sounds like a sensible plan Wayne, get the best of both worlds if possible.

Yes, he's keeping well and cruising for a while

If needed, you can always take a wee lock n lock Tupperware box if needed. Not quite the epitome of aesthetics, but functional
