  • Los Cristianos ? Tenerife

SWIMBO has made her mind up so it's where we're going. She's still dithering on dates, if we wait till November we can fly from Southend, or we can go anytime up to then from Gatwick or Stanstead.

The Canaries have their own cigar industry, or at least used to. Anyone been to Tenerife recently and scored a few Cubans anywhere? I will be taking my own just in case.

Homeward bound will be Tenerife South airport. Is the Duty Free worth looking at. Also I thing the Canaries are a bit odd, they aren't exactly a Duty Free Zone, but something is cheaper, and I believe the 'allowance' is the same as that of Gibraltar rather than Spain. Is that right?
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

Take your own T, I went last year and MLW went this year and we only saw one shop with some RyJ tubos baking in the window. Lots of supermarkets with local dry cigars on the shelves. I don't remember duty free being any good either.

Tenerife is duty free rather than Eu so it is 50 per person, and not the usual Spanish prices. I went to gran canaria a few years back and a few shops had cabinet humidors with reasonably priced Cuban 3 and five packs, not as reasonable as Spain but better than UK. I'm sure there are some local brands of repute but I didn't find or try any.

Hope you have a great time.

Dunno. Flying out later this afternoon, so will let you know if I find any.

the Condal factory closed some years back.
the shop i mentioned is a specialist tobacconist with a good selection and well stored - quite a few years since i've been there

Canary Islands are the oldest places where tobacco was cultivated and rolled in to cigars by Europeans, that the industry moved to Cuba and so on. There are plenty of Cuban cigars to buy in Tenerife but this is not the interesting part. The interesting part for me was at least to find local rollers and sellers. There are not many but I did find a few and I can tell you forget about Cuba lol!

All the restaurants, bars and cafes have outside seating where you can smoke. I didn't see any dedicated cigar bars or lounges though. (But that doesn't mean there aren't any ).

OSOR II on the Avenidia de Suecia wasn't too bad. As someone has already said it is the one with the walk in. OSOR I doesn't do Cubans at all, but they do have a reasonable choice of locally rolled. OSOR III is in Las Americas, what they have I don't know because they were shut when we visited.

For anyone just wanting a Cuban to smoke while there. There is a small tabac in the Central Gran Sur (Adeje, a couple of € bus ride out from Los Cristianos) that carries all of the regular production tubos, most of the RyJ's Monte's and Cohibas plus Quints and all of the Guans and for some strange reason had one box of Partagas Mille Fleurs.

If you're staying in Las Americas you can find a small selection of Tubos (PDS4, RyJ Short Churchill, all the usual suspects etc.) in of all places a souvenir shop. The small cabinet humi is on the left just as you go in, I checked the reading and it was fine. The shop is in the Avenidia De Las Americas, which is the main drag where the good shops and better hotels are. Stay on the Hard Rock Cafe side of the avenue (the Safari Centre will be on the opposite side) and walk against the traffic towards the Avenidia Rafael Puig Llumina. You’ll see a restaurant with a big sign ‘BIERE PINTA’ a few yards further and you’ll reach the little souvenir shop.

                  A word about OSOR II.

Mistake, I chose to visit on my last day in Los Cristianos. There wasn’t a Regional on the shelves, but the selection of production smokes was pretty good and all the brands were represented. Speaking to the lady looking after the walk in, she said, had the time been there she might have been able to get whatever I wanted from Cuba Cigar SL (Distributor for the Canary Islands). I told her about the Forum, and she gave me a phone no. 922 791 434 (Sort out the international dialing code yourselves ). If you ever go to Los Cristianos phone ahead with any requests and they’ll try to organise them for you, or if you're already there a three days or so prior notice. Just don't do what I did and go to the shop on your last day.

Tenerife South Duty Free wasn't that great. There are two humis, one on each of the shopping levels. Good for a Mini's etc., very heavy on Cohiba, supplemented with a few Monte, RyJ, HdM and Davidoff's.

This thread has come up at the perfect time! I am flying out to Tenerife on Sunday and I am looking to extend my collection by getting some while I was out there!

Never been before but I am going to a villa in La Arena just outside of Los gigantes! If anyone knows of any cigar places near there I would be very interested to know!

Don't know about La Arena or Los Gigantes, but if you're landing at Tenerife South you'll go past Los Cristianos on the coach from the airport taking you to your hotel.

If you get to Los Cristianos find the Reveron Plaza .... you can't miss it it has a big white church in the middle. Face the front of the church and walk left. Don't walk down street though, but take the small passage first left, it has stairs leading up to the Avenidia de Suecia, turn left onto the avenue, OSOR II is about 20-30 yards down on the right hand side.

We are going to try and go there later this week! Got myself three monte number 2 from a tabaccos today. Taste alright, little dried out.

The first shop put Me right off though. Went to buy a Romeo y Juliet and he asks if I want to buy a box of Monte number 4's. Nothing looked right... The habanos band didn't have the hologram on it, the cigars looked and smelt wrong and the band's were printed wrong. Gave him the Romeo y Juliet back and left the store!

Everywhere sells their local cigars! Even super markets. Did you try their local cigars at all?
