Just back from a week in France, and i have to say it was a cracking place but fairly spartan on the cigar front.
if you want domestic and some various NC then you have some choice, but Monte's are the default Cuban in most tabac's if they have a 'Cave du Cigars'.
i found a well stocked tabac in Quimper, the cultural capital of west brittany, but it was a tragic episode..... While browsing some interesting NC's at eye height, i thought i spotted a couple with bloom. My heart began to quicken! A well stocked, well kept, seleccion at decent prices! Then i spotted below a very very well stocked cuban section! a quick glance showed some of the usual suspects, and some more interesting and rarer smokes. And then i spotted a nice HdM with what i supposed was bloom, and then i looked closer... And upon inspection the whole darn cuban cabinet was clothed in mould. Every stick...
i would have snagged a picture but the owner spotted my wallet going away rather quickly and began to frown! I've had some succes recovering lightly moulded sticks in the past, so i briefly contemplated offering him silly money to get rid of his duff stock but figured my French wasnt up to haggling standard!
a disappointing trip on the cigar front, other than enjoying a very nice NC with a decent bottle of vintage (95) P&J Belle Epoque champagne.... Good champagne and a decent smoke is a. pairing i will definitely be trying again.
