  • Jet lighters, fuel and travel.

Reading up on customs regulations, it states that jet lighters and fuel are not allowed on flights unless
they are in some sort of special container. I will be doing a few flights on my holiday starting this week
so it will mean buying fuel and lighters in all destinations.

Do you just take a lighter with you or buy one when you get there?

    Cheapo!

The lighters there last 6 months of continual usage anyway so I'll bring 3 with me on vacations (one on person, one checked, one baggage) and if I lose all three, then there goes $3. Not that big of a deal.
Leave the special ones at home.

Why don't you just buy matches wherever you go? That's what I usually do.

My big problem is actually the cigar cutters... The cheap ones usually suck (a lot)!

I would still suggest taking a cheap one though, just in case you loose it

Knowledge is knowing that dx.com do very, very good cheap jet lighters.
                      Specifically this one http://www.dx.com/p/compact-1300-c-b...9#.VazCFKRVhBc

Wisdom is knowing there's not a snowball's chance of a delivery from them arriving before Johnny Thunder starts his holidays..

I am just taking my Honest with me. It only cost six quid so no major cost issue if it is confiscated.

                          Thanks everyone.

                            Found this on http://www.gatwickairport.com

                            Smoking materials

Cigarettes and other tobacco products are all allowed in hand baggage.
Because e-cigarettes carry a liquid receptacle, they should only be carried in hand baggage and be placed alongside other liquids in a transparent, re-sealable bag. Please note the e-cigarettes are soon to banned completely from hold luggage.
Please note matches and lighters are not allowed in hand or checked in baggage. You may take a single butane lighter or a box of safety matches on board the aircraft but only if carried on your person. Zippo lighters are also allowed as your one lighter.

                              Check and mate.

Fair point, Andy. But the dx.com recommendation is still good for anyone who reads this thread in the future. So i'm not entirely useless
