?surely it would be possible to smoke a Cuban in the US if you removed the branded band ?wouldn't it?

Do customs get funny about taking cigars in to the US without bands on?

I went vegas, took cubans, as you said just removed the bands.

I took a dozen Cubans with me to Vegas/Atlanta in 2005 & again in 2006, never even took the bands off, I think if they see you are intending to consume them on holiday they aren't too fussed.

U.S. and Cuban Cigars...

As a 20 year old I travelled to Colorado on rugby business... I had a suitcase practically full of Plymouth Gin (for which I wasn't old enough to have in my possession) and Cuban cigars (enough that I could have been accused of importing!) All gifts for my various hosts during my three week visit. Was very nervous when my bag had been taken off the luggage carousel... Thankfully, it was BA looking after it, rather than Customs!

Generally though, even if they did find some, they would be incredibly disinterested in a foreign national bringing a few sticks in. However, you might get unlucky and find a Customs official with a penchant for cigars...

As a 19 year old at Dartmouth (Naval College). It gave me something to do whilst doing night-time stag duty when on exercises. Everyone else was on ciggies, but couldn't bear to do that. Great de-stressor. Our Chief told us all when we joined not to try to give up smoking, and if we didn't already, we probably would be by the time we entered the fleet!
