  • Atlas Bar, Manchester

So, after Magoo's storming first post with the recommendation of this bar as well as Drake 92 which looked good I went down and spent a few hours there.

It's located right next to Deansgate station so nice and easy to get to.

Walk in and the first thing you notice is the 80 or so different Gins to try! Theres a fair selection of other spirits as well, even some decent Rums. Beer wise the usual premium lagers with the addition of Hoegaarden and Leffe blonde.

A good selection of bar food and everything brought out looked good! I bought some gourmet style pork scratchings which where lovely (on the left here)

So the important bit, outside. Lovely decking area at the rear that's covered and heated which suits our climate most of the year. It's enclosed so not much of a view but a very pleasant green area.

All in all it was a lovely place to spend the afternoon with a cigar or two, staff where great as well. Of you're in the area I'd recommend it in a heart beat

LOL butters with prices here you would be lucky to get change from 10 CAD for 1 drink. Thats a standard pint or middle rung gin and tonic.

Really? Do you lot have heavy liquor taxes? Thought it would've been even a bit cheaper as it's stilled (sometimes literally) down the street.

Mind you, our standard Canadian swill costs 7~CAD a pint at reputable places. Even Heineken is 9 or 11 CAD. Add 13% tax, add 12-18% 'culturally enforced' tip, and the price surges!

Yip heavy tax and very high prices in city centre locations a bit cheaper in the sticks, for a pint of peroni and a double malt on friday I was about the equivalent of 28 CAD.

Oh lord. That's actually the same price here after sales tax.
Mind you, the CAD is now 1- 1.86. Would've been cheaper a while back. But so would've everything.

yeah.... i'm showing my age NOW!! where were you when MoMar and TJ's Coros were ranting on about my 15 year old, 'microscopic' phallic?

and at the risk of sounding terribly young... i only started caring about the conversion rate when it was 1.6... has been 1.6 all my [relevant] life!

but it is nice to widen my scope. didn't know about the bloody TWO AND A HALF times conversion before. has put it all in a wider scope for me. Mind you, there's only so much i can learn if i wasn't living IN it...
Really, the only 'recent; economies i've followed before '08 was probably Ireland's 'Celtic Tiger' and Iceland's ruins

I meant showing your age in the prepubescent way not the old way. TJ and his effeminate monkey are safe from me intervening with your foreplay together
