Cigar punch with hand luggage?

Am flying off to Italy for a couple of days next month and am only taking hand luggage.

Was wondering if anyone knows how they'd treat a cigar punch going through the x-ray machines? I wouldn't expect to get a cutter through. No idea about a punch though...

Should be OK but always a risk if they choose to 'interpret' it as a weapon and take it. I often fly with a cheap lighter/punch combi. Never been stopped but not the end of the world if it goes.

Where are you going in Italy ...some good smokes there

I'm just flying to Rome for some unfinished inheritance business I need to take care of. Fly down on the Sunday, stay in Fiumicino, get train to the city next morning, do what I need to do, get train back to Fiumicino, fly out next day. If I'm going to Rome, I try and stay the least amount of time possible. Hoping to get hold of some Toscani whilst I'm there and of course, go to my favorite Trattoria in Fiumicino itself.

I wouldn't risk taking an expensive one, just bring a cheapie. Just in case. You could always post one to where your staying in Fiumicino then post back home once you've cut. Or even pre cut your cigars before travelling

Out of those two options, pre cut would be the way to go. As I@m only there for one and a bit days, not a problem, should have thought of that before.

I have had a cutter taken... As monkey says cheap cutter and lighter in the hand luggage and they can have it if they want. Xicar in the hold luggage.

I have a colleague who punches his cigars with a Cuban flag cigar pin rather than a retractable device. He wears it stuck in his lapel most of the time and, of course, to fly ! As I use either a V cutter or a guillotine, depending on the cigar, I've never had a security check problem.

While you're there, why not stop by Fincato's, the LCdH in Rome, and pick up a couple La Escepcion, Exclusivo Italia.

Quite exceptional, IMO!

Best to stay away from the "wet ones," however.

Well - I flew out to Madeira last Monday, and hadn't even considered this! The wonderful staff at Manchester took a deep interest in the Punch as they deemed it "Bullet Shaped".

The nice lady had to seek the advice of her slightly more senior management team - whilst explaining to me that as its bullet shaped, i could potentially wave it around scaring folk. After around 10 minutes deliberation I got it back and was able to pass through.

I retained my humour throughout. So yes - you will probably get through, but don't be surprised if you get asked a daft question or two!

Just had a look where Fincato's is and I might be able to get there if the other business doesn't take too long. I know Rome quite well and it won't take me more than 45 minutes to get there from where I need to be. I'll make a note of your recommendation, TJ so I don't forget when I'm there. And no, no idea what wet ones means in this context.....

I frequently travel with a punch (not bullet shaped) on my key ring, where it looks like a key fob. I have only had it closely examined once (on Eurostar) & I demonstrated it was perfectly safe by pushing it onto my palm & show it couldn't hurt anyobody. They let me through. I don't travel with Torps with hand luggage only to avoid the cutter. If going away for longer, it's put in the hold luggage.
