Hmm really interesting, I too am going to the south of Spain soon. Am looking to buy my first humidor and to fill it up with the best value product possible. These RG Perlas sound viable.

As far as I can see, a hand rolled, long filler, perla-sized cigar for €2.30 is the best value for a Cuban cigar anywhere outside Cuba.
When in Spain though, try the VegaFina Master Seleccion 2012 if you can find them. A fancy box of 10 robustos for €50 and the cigars are not bad at all.
The Por Larranaga Legendarios RE are good at 11.40 each.
Ramon Allones Grandes are great if you can find them.
Spain has good deals on other stuff too. The Partagas P1 jar is €250, good deal on that if you can find one, there are a few still around.
Quintero Favoritos aren't bad, though not the most elegant, at €3, the size is between a robusto and short robusto. A year or two might take some of the edge off them.
Look for aged stock, quite a few shops have them and they don't increase the price because they can't.
A shop near where I go has 2001 Cohiba Esplendidos, not that cheap in Spain at €25 each but lovely. And I know that is one case where he's not refilling the box as they have the pre-2003 bands on them.

If you like different packaging, Altadis does nice things for their retailers.
There is a new Monte 4 travel humidor out this year, I think one of the nicer ones yet (There have been at least 3 different versions of this). Faux leather outside, with 2 zipped compartments. One section comes filled with 25 monte 4s and space for more cigars, humidification, a lighter and a cutter. The other compartment will hold an iPad or more cigars. That for €155, same price as a regular box of 25 Monte 4s in Spain.

It would be nice if Hunters did similar things for their clients..

Sounds really nice, but I was thinking about getting a permanent humidor for my room at univesity, perhaps 100 cigar capacity (and buy the cigars in spain perhaps) . DO you think if I bought a box or two of the perla or Vega Fina, they would last ok in the box until I got them back home to my humidor (2 weeks) ? Or would I have to buy a travel humidor for the journey (or even a full sized one and carry it on the flight!)?

Thanks for the tips on cigars to buy over there... which cigars to fill my first humidor is quite a difficult decision!

They'll be fine. Bring some ziplock bags with you if you're worried. Put the boxes in ziplock bags until you get them to your humidor at home.

Any ideas for something in the area between the vegafina's and the montecristo edmundo?! - I want something fairly decent for my first ever humidor but can't afford a box of something excellent like 25 PSD4's until payday! :P

They do look good, and great value.. but was looking for a longer smoke, any ideas?

I'm not really sure what you're looking for regarding money/size but some options
Quintero Favoritos, new short-filler robustos, not bad, need some time 75 euro/box 25
Vegafina coronas, dominican tubes, really not bad at al, one of the better non-cubans available in spain I have found, about 3 euro each.
Quintero Brevas, I've always liked these as a walking around cigar, short filler about 50 euro/box 25
Jose el Piedra, 5 X 5 packs of petit cazadores, about 25 euro for 25, may be a bit small for what you're looking for.
Other than that, if money's an issue, we've all been there, smoke less and smoke better. A Partagas Serie D No. 4 is about 8 euro. etc.

Have just got back from the trip and have come back with a box of Romeo y Julieta n.2. I bought a combo of h.upmann magnum 50 and 46 to smoke when out there, which came in a nice travel box. As per usual they were beautiful. I also smoked a cohiba siglo 2 and 4 which were tasty but disappointingly tough on the draw. Found a box of 25 vegafina coronas for 100 euro. Was going to get it because of your advice but because I don't have a humidor yet I couldn't store so many. The Romeo tubes should last a bit longer until I can find a humidor! Pictures to follow.

Search the forum on tuppaware / tuppadors. A cheap alternative to humidors. Don't risk keeping the puros without humidification!

Good point. Think I would rather find a deal on a small humidor or buy a second hand one from someone here. Don't trust my ability to make one :P
