  • Best place to buy Cigars on a European road trip...

    Hi,

I'm going on a road trip from the UK, to calais, through belgium onwards through Luxembourg down Germany, staying in Zurich, over the alps into Milan - staying in Milan and then back roughly the same way.

On that route which country would be best for topping up my cigars? I'm the route planner too so a little diversion is always possible. Ideally i'd want to buy a few either in Zurich or before hand.

What is the duty free like on the ferries?

Hi mate, on a recent trip to boulogne through calais there were no cigars on the ferry and slim pickings in calais. I think the best bet is zurich and after that probably germany

      Hi,
I live in Geneva Switzerland and the prices of cigars here are very good, I know its not exactly on your way though. Probably Zurich has similar prices although I haven't been there. I pay prices which are sometimes cheaper than Andorra and Gibraulter.
      Happy road trip!

molecularstudent could you expand on where you buy etc, I'd love to visit at somepoint
Geneva isn't expensive to fly to

Maybe in a thread in the travel section?

          Hello Dean,
Ah I was a bit apprehensive to answer this thread as my understanding was that we were not meant to speak about non-UK sources? I'm very happy to tell you, I will start a thread in the Travel section once you can confirm I won't be booted haha
Also, if you did think of coming, it would be great to have a Herf. I have no one ere to smoke good cigars with!!
          Have a great day
          Chris

There is an lcdh app for the iPhone which shows locations and contact details.

What is not allowed to be discussed on the forum is sources to get cigars shipped into the uk dodging tax etc.

Shops to purchase from whilst travelling are ok as long as you comply in your discussion with uk rules

The issue with talking of non-UK sources is to do with mail order as this is evading UK duty. Picking up cigars abroad in person is a legitimate exercise as long as people don;t discuss bringing in cigars over the duty free allowance and how to hide them etc. The only caviate to that is its illegal to be paid for them in cash or kind, so you can't get some for a mate unless its a gift.

I'm sure you already know the place - cheapest cigar shop in Geneva. It's been mentionned before in several threads.

Try Cigar World (http://www.cigarworld.de/) on your way through Duesseldorf, Germany. If you are looking for a place to relax in and smoke a stogie or two. They have a huge selection of Cuban and Non-Cuban and a large cigar lounge to smoke in. They also have a large selection of ER and LE's. It would be a great place to take a few hours off from your road trip. Hope this helps.
