  • Hotel cigar prices!

I always try and take a good stock of cigars when I am travelling and this helps avoid purchasing cigars which have been stored in sub standard conditions. Last week I was staying in the Hyatt in Baku and I noticed that they had started keeping cigars in the bar. I checked out the prices and was shocked to find that they wanted ?45 for the Cohiba Genios and ?26 for the Epicure No2.

I realise that the Hotels need to make a profit but I thought this was a bit steep. Has anyone else noticed that the price of cigars in some of the more exclusive Hotels has escalated over the past two years, when the retail prices have only increased slightly. Surely the Hotels cannot be struggling to source decent cigars!

Hotel prices for most things are disproportionately expensive. Also the local prices/taxation is going to have a big impact. Do you know the local retail pricing in Az?

      Carry On Puros!

(Ahem) Resort hotel prices have always been high, IMO. But when you're puroless and need a stick. Well... your stuck.

Always remember Don TJ's Rule No. 69,"Always take your own sticks when you travel."

Haha! That's what SHE said, BB!

Spoke to a guy last week who had two drinks at the bar at the Connaught in London. He was convinced they had charged him for dinner for two!

There is only one official Habanos retailer in the country and he is a businessman who also owns a Hotel and an Opel franchise. He has a nice cigar shop next to his hotel and the prices are probably on a par with UK prices (hard to believe, but true).

Inflation is running at around 18-20% and import duties for everything are exorbatent. Still cannot see how they can justify some of their prices though.
The moral of the story I suppose is always have a good stock with you.

like anything thing really, your paying for the convience.
Just like food at a music fesival or drinks in a hotel mini bar, something is only worth what people will pay.
As long as hotels etc know that they can charge X for something and the occasional person will buy it through desperation/convience they will continue to do it. Its a rip off, but then we dont have to buy it do we. lol

It's a pretty simple equation and I'm no mathematician, We often complain that there are too few places to smoke cigars, hotels have to manage stock, staff the place and in the case of HDV build and heat wonderous wooden structures to enjoy a cigar in.

If it was your business you wouldn't expect to invest all that money and then sell sticks at less than cost.

If we want nice places to smoke cigars then we have to pay a little extra.

Having said that ?2,000 each for an original Behike is [I edited myself here] "a little over the top".

The Novotel in Bangkok Airport charged me a little over 30 quid for a Partagas D4 :S they will always charge you more however, I believe it's unfairly overpriced as a good cigar bar is a better place to smoke and charge you about half that price
