Hello all,
I've been chilling in Hamburg for the last little while and have met up with a good friend, we sat down at the Marriott for a Cigar and I pulled out a pair of Macanudos, his expression was priceless:
I bought these abut 6 months ago ( a box of 12) I'm a bit of a gadget and gimmick lover so these with their beautiful obscuro wrapper and metal band was an instant draw, the cigar features a Conneticut wrapper apparently from a small crop cultivated in 1997 and fermented more than usual to promote a superlative taste, the fillers are from Nicuragua, Brazil and Dominican Republic.
The cigar cut perfectly and the pre light draw was great, it was maybe slightly tighter that I prefer but certainly nothing to put me off.
After lighting I was very pleased to see a straight burn line which wavered a little soon after lighting with pleasingly large gouts of smoke, the tast I would say was an earthy woodyness with maybe a grassy feel a hint of leatheriness, there was also a slight pepperiness which added a little more interest to it, though I do have to admit that it certainly wasn't bursting with taste.
As I went into the second third the same flavours were present however there was a building bitter sweetness (that cocoa type thing) but it was slightly more sweet than bitter, basically very pleasant, not groundbreaking but nice.
The burn line did waver slightly but nothing to worry about and the ash with it's slightly zebra quality stayed on for ages, this is a beautifully crafted cigar:
Ahhhh erm ....whoops, sorry Marriott
WHat was I saying about the ash ;-)
As I went into the final Third the tastes changed almost immediately, it went very sweet and peppery, the leather and woody flavours being totally obscured by this sweetness it did however die down pretty quickly though and settles into a more elegant pose, I smoked it right down and these pleasant tastes remained till the end.
Drink: Spiced Rum
Looks: 9.5/10 It looks fantastic, great construction though some would say totally ostentatious (which I like )
Build: 7.5/10 There were a few hard spots and the sudden flavour change was unexpected.
Taste: 8/10 Nice, it started subtle, then went crazy and finished smooth and tasty.
For something touted as limited edition with years of love poured into it I did expect a little more..........nut still nice enough never the less and they look cool in your humi.
