Introduction
The Montecristo’s before 2009 received mixed reviews, but many thought that the high standards of flavour had slipped. But 2009 seems to be a very different experience. The best of the bunch are towards the end of 2009.
Description
The smell was completely irresistible, with a deep, rich note of coffee and a higher note of sweet spice. The pre-light draw was good too, but the cigar was a little tighter than most – so I had to take a little more off of the cap.
The flavour of this cigar is very difficult to explain. It is very deep and complex, but it merged beautifully in a smooth format. I tried my hardest to break down the separate flavours and was left with this …
A very rich taste of coffee and dark chocolate made up the body of the flavour, followed by a very smooth sweetness. Once you get used to these flavours you can begin to detect a hint of vanilla and cinnamon to finish the blend.
The quality of these sticks is amazing. The flavour starts right from the off and doesn’t deviate throughout the smoke. Towards the end there are no harsh or bitter flavours, but a woody oak taste starts to come into the cigar. The smoothness blends the flavours perfectly and leaves us with something truly unique. A cigar best enjoyed in the evening.
