Toscano (?) Italian Cigar Review
This is a surprise review (more on that later) so sadly there's not too many pictures. If you're not familiar with a Toscano cigar (there's little info around) they normally look like this:
My brother came back from holiday in Italy and bought back one of these. I was excited, however this excitement soon went away when I examined the cigar. The wrapper was almost rock solid and smell of the cigar was STRONG leather (with a hint of soap), it stained your hands and you could smell it and inch from the nose.
I had a quick read online and apparently these strange shaped cigars are meant to be cut in half and traditionally shared, or smoked in two sittings, so I thought why not give it a go in front of my brother as at 3 inches half wouldn't take long.
The pre light draw was very tight, almost like sucking a thick milkshake through a straw, and the taste was a very strong, smoky leather that almost instantly finished. Still not very excited, I lit it up.
The first few pulls were bland, with minimal smoke output and a surprisingly mild tobacco taste. After a few minutes however, things changed. The smoke output became perfect, with thick clouds of chewy smoke leaving my mouth.
The taste developed too, hints of sweet nuts and caramel merged together in a beautiful creamy texture that stuck to the back of the throat. In a matter of minutes I'd gone from low expectations to having my most enjoyable recent smoke.
After the first third (which took about 10 minutes, very slow burner), the taste shifted to a dry nut which was a shame, I was missing the first third very much. As if the first 2/3's were a tease, the final third came around with the sweet nut and caramel flavours back, this time teamed up with nutmeg to create an explosion of smooth smoke heaven.
The flavours never overpowered you, always staying mild, and there was never once any spice of zing. This was a pure smooth mild smoke.
Cgars stock some Toscani Toscano cigars, but they have a different band to the one my brother came back with, so no idea if it's the same one. If anyone has any info on mine I'd be very grateful, I definitely want more of these. The second half's going into the humidor, I want to try this bad boy once it's aged a bit.
