hey all,
just getting round to posting my thoughts on the custom rolled cuban cigar kindly gifted to me by simon bolivar!!!
this rustic looking, mareva sized, custom rolled cigar was an unexpected added bonus mr bolivar gave with the couple of german boli's i bought from him!!! in the email he sent afterwards, he informed me that he bought a bundle of said cigars from one of the tobacco farms he visited, where the farmer said he supplied for leaves for montecristo!!! aside from the fact the cigar had a wonderful leathery, very rich tobacco aroma, it definitely reminded me of the the last montecristo petite tubos i bought recently!!!
first off, i'll be the first to admit that montecristos really don't float my boat, except for the especial no.1, monte no.2 and petite edmundo!!! thankfully, that's where the similarities ended!!! it may have smelt like a monte 4, at least it didn't taste much like it.......
as i said, the cigar itself was quite rustic looking, which was definitely part of it's charm (not a detraction)!! it was fairly pleasing in appearance, not rough veins, well applied cap, well rolled and packed!!! after cutting the cap and taking a pre-light draw, i was met with what i could describe as an earthy taste with a slight spicy undertone and clean tobacco!!! there was something woody, leathery, nutty..... pepper!!! the draw itself seemed a bit tight, bit opened up after about 2 cm's!!! what followed was a very pleasant 45 minute journey with enough twists and turns to keep me very happy, with lovely flavours of clean tobacco, cocoa, vanilla, toffee and the above mentioned!!! the cigar i would describe as medium bodied..... it wasn't super complex, but it was far from bland!!! oh, and it paired up beautifully with a bottle of hoegaarden beer (a nod in respect to simon's adopted homeplace of belgium)!!!
a big thank you to simon for kindly gifting this to me!!! thanks a million mate:
