First out of a box from '08

Looks: not a great looking cigar with an uneven yellowish brown wrapper. But who cares about looks anyways 3/5

Construction and draw: Perfect draw, burnt very evenly if perhaps a bit quickly 4.25/5

Flavour : After the first few spicy puffs, I got wood flavourings and sweet vanilla with an earthy background and a light white pepper on the nose. It was a true medium almost all the way through with the earth taking over in the last couple inches and the vanilla taking on a more burnt flavour. It was a very smooth cigar. 4.5/5

Overall : What makes this cigar so great for me is the depth and profundity of the wood flavours that are there to discover. In combination with the sweet vanilla and background earthiness we have a unique must try cigar in my opinion. It is a consistent and perhaps uncomplex cigar in the sense that there are not a myriad of changes and flavours, but what there is you can explore to a much greater extent than in many other cigars. It is a very enjoyable trip ! This will definitely be a permanent addition to my stock. 4.25/5

    Nice review Daize

I'm tempted to try a few, having recently sampled the Hoyo Petit Robusto and enjoyed that.

Thanks for the review. I'm a big fan of the standard HdM line but not tried any of the Le Hoyos yet.

Nice review Daize, I put a cab of these away in 98/99 & opened them on their 10th birthday. What I thought of as a simply nice even flavored pre- dinner smoke had aged into a medium + very complex smoke, draw was very light but very even although the visual build wasn't impressive the sheer volume of smoke made up for that...a great cigar all in!

I really like them. Got a couple of 15 year old ones from the Decent Cigar in Dublin and was amazed at how even better they got. Definitely a cigar for laying down!

Fantastic cigar (if a little inconsistent).

What year is the one you reviewed here?

I have found that they really need the age, then they can be amazing

Nice review Daize. I've always found the standard HdM range to be a bit quite inconsistent (though I appear to be on my own in this opinion). The Le Hoyo range, however, I've always found to be cracking smokes. Must get my hands on another des Dieux now that I've read this, don't have any in stock.
