Hoyo de Monterrey Petit Robustos
Size: 102 mm x 50 ? Petit Robusto
Origin: Cuba
Smoke time: 40-45 mins.
Cigar box date: 2008.
Appearance: Stubby and purposeful. Toothy textured Colorado wrapper with one or two surface veins and two very small blemishes. The final wrap going under the triple cap however did look a little haphazard, so I delayed my smoke by ten minutes to let a dab of Torcedor glue dry out. HdM Standard band ?D? (embossed).
Construction: The cigar felt reassuringly well filled (as these have a reputation of sometimes being a little loose) and there was a nice ?give? at the band. The pre-draw was good and slightly resistive and the smoking draw easy and relaxed throughout the duration of the smoke. The burn however was troublesome and uneven with at one point a 30? slant from band face side to bottom. The ash, whilst it did ?hold? was scruffy and untidy and there was some un-ravelling of the wrapper during the second half of the smoke. Two tap offs. Two partial corrections. No re-lights.
Flavour: The pre-light aroma is woody. The flavour profile of the cigar was ?mild? and for the first third explored light, sweet floral/fruit notes along with the customary Cuban lemon/citric twang. The smoke quality was light and carried a vaguely vanillalike aroma. In the second third I did pick-up some light, pleasant woodier notes but the flavours from the initial third were still dominant. During the last third I thought I detected hints of cedar (maybe) and a little bit of leather but the reality of the finish was that the last third is just a slightly more intense version of the first. I finished the cigar early, not because I disliked the flavours in any way, but because I?d simply lost interest.
Note: Mild, sweet pepper is supposed to be part of flavours profile, my taste buds must be having an off-day as I could detect none.
Overall: Minor construction issues aside, I found this stick to be reasonably flavoursome in a light refreshing way and an easy smoke for what was an earlier time of day. I?ve yet to get around to smoking the Monte Petit and the Trinidad Short Robusto T EL 2010, but so far, and in this size area, whilst many Aficionado including cigarinspector will disagree (see review), http://www.cigarinspector.com/hoyo-d...-petit-robusto I personally did not find this cigar to be quite as interesting or as endearing as the H.Upmann Mag 48 EL 2009 or the G&G My Father Le Bijou 1922. No great tobacco ?hit? so IMHO a good cigar for beginners.

Come on tippex your reviews are much more more accurate, credible, educated than those on that site. No comparison possible?
