Cigar: El Rey del Mundo Tres Petit Coronas
Size: 110 ins x 42 ? Minutos
Origin: Cuba
Smoke time: 30 mins
Cigar box age: Unknown. (Can?t remember the source, possibly www.whisky-cigars.co.uk)
Note: Discontinued 1999 ? so at least 11 years old.
Appearance: Slighty squared at the foot with smooth Colorado Claro wrapper that had few veins and an almost camouflage quality due to some under-surface patches of sage green in the colouration.
Construction: Solid and well packed with an acceptable ?pinch? at the band. Easy pre-draw. Loose, although comfortable smoking draw. The burn was good with the ash staying compact and solid throughout the smoke. Three tap offs, no re-lights, no corrections.
Flavour: The pre-light aroma was tobacco and light wood. The cigar started well, with a light citrus through cedar. The lemonlike flavour did have a nice subtle quality, which lingered in the mouth and reminded me of lemon sponge cake. For the first half of the smoke there was also the through-the-nose sensation of some nice, mild pepper. The lemon flavour had all but disappeared in the second half and the smoke ? still mild ? became more woody with an occasional hint of something tealike. Passed the band there was some ?pick-up? in flavour strength and the tobacco strength also increased slightly.
Overall: Mild flavoured and linear. OK as an after breakfast or aperitif smoke. Maybe the cigar was in a ?quiet period? or possibly age had ?washed it out? completly, because it didn?t really come up to my flavour expectation from a CC, nor did it have the vitality of the much smaller ERdM Demi Tasse.
