Ok - looked at this stick for long enough, the occasion came and ash was made.
After some research and debate the general consensus is that this stick is probably an old Trinidad blend Fundadores style Lancero made in 1992-6 from 5 year old tobacco.
We recently compared it to other diplomatic release Lanceros (Palm Tree bands) and it appeared smoother and visibly lighter wrapper than the Cohiba based ones.
Construction was faultless and a bit of a stick to behold.
Once cut I found myself savouring the pre-draw. The predominate taste was of honey-suckle/pollen if you know what I mean. There was also that familiar taste older sticks have with a subtle dried fruit thing going on.
The draw was a tiny bit tight but this was probably a good thing because I really didn't want to rush this stick.
From the second puff this was a bit special. Three clearly defined flavours that stayed with it to the end coca, vanilla and honey. The clarity of these three were vivid through the first two thirds. I purged it a bit past half way down as it was getting a little rough. It cleaned right up and carried on delivering. The body built and the flavours got more muted through the last third but never harsh and I enjoyed every puff.
Overall a great stick, the first half was magical and provided an excellent 2 hours.
