Cigar: Hoyo de Monterrey Hoyo Du Maire
Size: 3.9 ins x 30 ? Entreactos
Smoke time: 30 mins
Cigar box age: TGR NIC 05
Note: I did find the smoke time on this cigar to be somewhat shorter than that which I usually expect from a Du Maire this might in some way be by result of the lower PH in my humidor due to the colder weather and continuous running of the central heating.
Appearance: Wrinkly, slightly veiny claro wrapper with the beginnings of crystalisation (plume).
Construction: The pre-light draw was free with a barely detectable light woodiness to the aroma. The smoking draw was easy and the burn stayed reasonably on-track for the duration of the smoke. The ash was typical Cuban dark grey, and whist steadily compact wasn?t perfect in a tidy sense.
Flavour: There is flavour progression in the cigar but it is subtle. The start is pronounced but soft, along with the expected twang of Cuban tobacco there is a milkiness and clean wood note in the background. The smoke was perfectly smooth and around the half way was joined by hints of salt and pine nuts. Towards the end of the smoke the flavour became dryer and deeper with the wood and nuts predominant accompanied by the lightest hint of spice. Smooth, mellow, not over complicated but very satisfying nevertheless.
Overall: A short smoke certainly, and IMHO maybe not quite as good as the ERdM Demi Tasse (http://www.ukcigarforums.com/showthread.php?t=7465), but an excellent little smoke worth having around for quick occasions when the weather is against, or for sandwich/lunch breaks when it?s time you're against.
