Cuaba Divinos
Size: 101mm x 42 ? Petit Bouquet
Smoke time: 40mins.
Cigar box date: EMA MAY 08. The recommended optimum ageing period for this cigar is 5 years.
Note: Previous experience has taught me to smoke this cigar quite slowly as it does have a tendency to become hot if puffed at too frequently.
Appearance: Typical figurado shape. Rustic looking wrapper with one or two surface veins. The maroon Cuaba band suits the shape and is probably my favourite of all the Cuban brand bands.
Construction: Usual tight pre-draw due to the figurado shape. Smoking draw, once past the figurado ?first hump? was free and easy throughout the smoke, although the smoke texture itself seemed quite light, but which may have been due to the cold smoking environment. The ash was compact and firm. The burn over the first inch was a bit off, but that was my fault for not remembering to hold the jet-flame a little further away for lighting figurados. Two tap offs. No re-lights required.
Flavour: The pre light aroma is rich tobacco with a hint of dark chocolate. The first few puffs were firstly quite bitter ? revealing some of the underlying tobacco strength this little cigar packs ? but quickly relaxed into the customary sour lemon/floral Cuban norm. Passed the ?hump? the flavour became like that of dark chocolate with a distinct peppery kick plus a bonus saltiness which spread deliciously around my mouth and tongue. At two thirds the chocolate flavour became darker toned and more earthlike with just the hint of an underlying marmalade sweetness. This flavour stayed pretty much as was till the end of the smoke increasing only in bitter sharpness ?never in harshness ? which speaking only for myself, I found very pleasant and enjoyable.
Overall: An ideal short smoke for this time of year, but beware the nicotine hit in the last inch or so, this cigar isn?t as puny as it appears. With a few more years this cigar is supposed to loosen and release it?s full sweetness, going to be well worth the waiting IMHO.
