Diplomaticos ? Diplomaticos No.5
Size: 102mm x 42 ? Peria
Smoke time: 40mins
Box date: EMA AGO 08
This cigar is the first I?d smoked from this box. I have smoked No.5s prior but these were CGars singles and possibly older than today?s smoke as I detected very little in the way of ?peppers? which had been a feature previously. Burn today was also a little bit ragged, but that I think was more due to the George Raft hammering through the conservatory this afternoon and to the Gale that?s currently flattening the plants in my garden.
Appearance: Nice looking stick, with a slightly mottled claro wrapper and with what I?m going to describe as thread- veins. I picked on this stick from the box because it had a slight tear to the wrapper foot ? imperfections get burned first!
Construction:Nice easy ?pinch? at the band but the stick felt very worryingly solid at the cap. However the pre-draw was fine with the lit-draw slightly resistive just as I prefer. The grey ash stayed solid (despite the draught) throughout the entire smoke, and needed only two tap-offs (see photos). No re-lights, no corrections.
Flavour: The first taste is the expected Cuban lemon twangs plus a hint of farmyard. The lemon sweetness dries away into a dryer, more Schweepslike bitter lemon flavour accompanied by hints of sweet cocao bordering almost on chocolate digestive. Halfway and the flavours become more woody and toasted, but still leaving a clean, satisfying sweetness at the top of the mouth. In the last third the flavours become richer and stronger taking on an acidic tea like quality that I found delicious right down to the final puff.
Overall: A cheapish little cigar, but still a great afternoon?s smoke. Excellent value for money and well worth giving a try.
Thank's for reading.
