Here?s my first review so bear with me. Being as I?m at a milestone I thought I?d do something useful!
I smoked it wandering around the park with a bottle of water for accompaniment.
Quite chilly! Sorry, no photos. Thought I might get funny look from people walking their dogs.
Appearance: Chocolate brown in colour, no pronounced veins, quite firm but springy, well applied cap. I received this in a bomb and is box-pressed. No idea of the date. Been in my humidor for ten months.
Flavour: Lit perfectly with a soft flame lighter, a really rich, um, cigar smell with a vague aroma of coffee. The first puff was powerful tobacco and loads of spice. I thought I was on for a ride with this one. Absolute sinus bursting spice in the retro-hale. After a quarter inch the spice dropped back, still strong tobacco but mellower. Plumes of lovely greyish smoke. Really coating the palette. I know I?m still going to taste this tomorrow morning. End of the first third started to get what some would call the leathery taste and, I?m groping here, you know when you swill a really strong cabernet around your mouth and get that deep, dry berry taste, well, that. This lasted, in various strengths to the end of the smoke, just finding the leather and tobacco getting more powerful. The band was loose and removed for the final third which was, I think, the best part. Even though the general strength had risen the flavours had become softer. I assume this is the creaminess some have mentioned. I was also getting the nicotine rush with about an inch and a quarter to go. A couple more drags and I consigned it to the bin.
Conclusion: Most definitely a powerhouse cigar for me. I tend to go the more mediumish, but the range of flavours really kept the interest up. I?m glad I had this on a full stomach (Sunday dinner, lovely!) otherwise I think it would have come on a bit much. It took me forty five minutes of taking it slow. I even got a comment from a couple out for a walk telling me the cigar smelt lovely.
Can?t say fairer than that.
